Game of Thrones Movie Officially in The Works With Andor Writer On Board md20

Amid WB and Paramount’s merger talks, the first Game of Thrones movie is finally moving ahead with the writer of Andor at the helm.

HBO’s Game of Thrones is finally headed to the big screens from House of Cards showrunner Beau Willimon (Seasons 1-4), who also worked as a key writer on Andor, one of the best Star Wars projects to come out of the Kathleen Kennedy era. While details regarding the project remain under wraps, Page Six reported that Willimon has already submitted a draft for the movie in question.

Although things could shift amid WB and Paramount’s merger, the current leadership at WB is apparently pumped about Willimon’s draft for the GOT movie, which could revolve around the first king of Westeros, Aegon the Conqueror.

What is Game of Thrones‘ First Movie About?

While nothing concrete has been revealed about the project, it’s been speculated that the movie could be about Aegon, the man responsible for founding the Targaryen dynasty.

This chimes well with previous reports surrounding WB and HBO’s plans to adapt Aegon’s conquest for the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter previously noted that WB was reportedly aiming to stretch the prequel story into a feature-length movie.

Moreover, with the mainline Dune series concluding with the third movie, reports further claimed that WB intended to adapt the movie on the scale of the Dune movies. And given how rich the world of Westeros is, this could bode well if the movie gets off the ground.

WB and Paramount’s Potential Merger Could Cloud the GOT Movie Plans

Even though the current regime is reportedly thrilled about Beau Willimon’s draft, which isn’t surprising following his work on Andor and House of Cards, with the potential merger on the horizon, things could shift down the road.

If the merger between WB and Paramount eventually goes through, there’s a possibility that the new management could start restructuring the slate, even if it means cancelling already greenlight projects. And given the stature of Paramount’s offer, which stands at a whopping $111 billion (via NPR), they might begin cutting costs on some fronts if the acquisition is approved.

But considering Game of Thrones has been a golden goose for HBO and WB for years, following the success of spin-offs like House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, hopefully, the GOT movie will be realized.
