Liam Cunningham, who played Davos Seaworth in Game of Thrones, comments on whether he will appear in the announced Jon Snow spinoff show.
Game of Thrones star Liam Cunningham addresses Davos’ possible return in the announced Jon Snow spinoff series at HBO. Based on the novels by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones first premiered in 2011, ultimately running for eight seasons before coming to an end in 2019. A number of spinoff shows have since been announced, with a Jon Snow sequel series first mentioned in August of last year before the premiere of House of the Dragon.
Now, as information remains scarce on the Jon SnowGame of Thrones spinoff, Cunningham reveals to Den of Geek that he has actually reached out to actor Kit Harington about appearing in the announced sequel show. Unfortunately, it sounds like Davos may not be a part of whatever story is currently being planned. Check out Cunningham’s full comment below:
“I did send [Kit] a text saying, ‘Better Call Davos’. I haven’t heard anything back. You probably know more than I do. I wish them the best to whoever’s involved in it, and if the check is big enough, I might even show up again!”
Will The Game Of Thrones Jon Snow Spinoff Actually Happen?
So far, House of the Dragon is the only Game of Thrones spinoff that has actually come to fruition. The show is one of a handful of announced spinoffs, with others including The Sea Snake, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, and Ten Thousand Ships, as well as multiple animated shows. Most of these shows appear to be in the very early stages of development, but work is undoubtedly currently on pause due to the ongoing WGA strikes.
It should also be noted that the announcement of development on a Jon Snow spinoff is not confirmation that the series will actually happen. HBO Drama Chief Francesca Orsi commented on the status of the Jon Snow series earlier this year, making clear that it’s still unclear if the show can “go all the way” and actually get the green light.
Whether the Jon Snow spinoff happens, then, sounds like it’s just a matter of ensuring that the concept and the scripts reach a certain quality threshold, which it evidently has not yet done. House of the Dragon may not be as good as Game of Thrones was during its heyday, but it has earned very strong reviews and has been a viewership hit, putting further pressure on HBO to be judicious about how Martin’s fantasy world is further expanded.
