Using a creative show-within-a-show promotional approach, “General Hospital” is preparing for the imminent return of the Nurses Ball with Mistress of Ceremonies Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) giving the fictional Port Charles affiliate station WXPC a wide-ranging interview detailing what the denizens can expect during this year’s event.
“The General Hospital Nurses Ball is back. After sitting out 2024, Port Charles’ longest-running charity event returns next month with plans to be bigger and better than ever,” says George Pennacchio, the ABC7 Los Angeles entertainment reporter appearing as a version of himself who is a news anchor for WXPC, introducing a video segment released on Wednesday, April 30 across the daytime drama’s social media channels.“Our own Robert Nunez got the scoop from the mistress of ceremonies herself, Lucy Coe,” continued Pennacchio, introducing the interview with Coe, conducted by the referenced Robert Nunez, who in real life is the director of communications at Disney General Entertainment Content (formerly the Disney/ABC Television Group).
“It’s the event of the season, of the century, and also everybody gets involved for such a good cause. Money, HIV, AIDS research, and care. We’ll be calling you for some bucks, baby,” says Lucy, talking about the event’s return.
With Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) underwriting the Nurses Ball in its entirety through his company, SR Worldwide, Lucy notes she has big plans that will see individuals who have rarely, if ever, performed on stage.
Some of the people she highlighted include returning favorites Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson) and the Magic Milos, as well as “Somebody that is so unexpected that it just takes your breath away. And I have some big plans. So just wait.”With the event set to kick off on Tuesday, May 20, Lucy shares, “May is perfect. That means the people can perhaps wear skimpier gowns because it’ll be warm.”Speaking of gowns, she reveals to Nunez that she’ll have to “kill [him] if I tell you this secret. These gowns are top secret. No one sees them till the day, so shut your mouth.”
