For a while, fans have worried if Sonny Corinthos’ time on General Hospital is coming to an end. A recent spoiler has hinted that the character is about to find himself in danger, while already facing serious health issues. However, some fans suspect another character with ties to Sonny might save him after all.
Sonny Corinthos Has Recently Been Suffering Health Issues On General Hospital
Sonny has been part of General Hospital since 1993 and has been consistently played by actor Maurice Benard. The mob kingpin has gone onto become part of various storylines over the years and has even been part of a few supercouples on the show.
Recent events on the soap have seen Sonny endure a fair share of health issues, with viewers seeing him clutching his chest in pain. Sonny initially wanted to keep this all secret, even at the risk of treatment, but his heart issues gradually became a bigger problem.
Over the past fews months, fans had even been worried that they would soon see the end of the character on the show. Things have especially taken a dangerous turn thanks to a recent spoiler for the series. In a recent preview video, Sonny could be seen lying in a hospital bed, prepping for open heart surgery.
A “nurse,” who appeared to be Mercedes Lopez Renard’s Agent Colette appeared to give him some sort of injection. While Colette is Jack Brennan’s deputy chief, she is also known to go rogue, and may have sinister plans to take care of Sonny for good. Whether it’s an overdose or poison, Sonny could soon meet his end, much like other characters have on the soap.
However, some fans suspect that recent events on the soap might actually be leading to Sonny’s rescue. His ex-wife Carly has made it clear she wants to be with him as he seeks treatment in Los Angeles. She’s received support for this from both Jason and Sonny himself.
Carly Might Prove To Be The Hero Sonny Needs (In More Ways Than One)
This could lead to a confrontation between Carly and the supposed “nurse,” allowing her to stop the injection altogether. Even if Carly is too late to stop it from happening, she could also arrive in time to get Sonny help before it’s too late.
Another thing is also in Sonny’s favor. He is a prolific character on the soap, so fans would expect him to go out in a blaze. Some fans suspect a simple overdose would be too easy when it comes to killing him off.
Laura Wright herself, Carly’s actress, also recently talked about how her character and Sonny will always have a connection. Speaking with Soap Opera Digest, she mused, “They are family. Whatever has happened in their romantic life, and no matter what, she’s got his back and vice versa.”
When the preview was uploaded on General Hospital‘s Instagram page, a few fans already shared the hope that Carly would somehow save the day. A few also suspected Jason could take on a similar role and save Sonny. Some comments included:
