General Hospital Star Speaks Out: My Singing Talent Is Being Overlooked

General Hospital icon Carolyn Hennesy hopes show bosses will let her show off her singing skills as a cabaret entertainer in a dream storyline.

And the beloved actress on TV’s biggest soap opera would adore the bombshell plot with Damien Spinelli as her character Diane Miller’s long lost son.

Fans have suggested online that part-time Spinelli, played by Bradford Anderson, return to drop the sensational twist.

Carolyn opened up on her hopes for Diane’s future as she will celebrate 20 years on the US’s longest-running daytime television series next year.

In an exclusive on-camera interview, Carolyn, a Daytime Emmy winner, is proud to play an “empowered” role featured in many plots for years.

But in a fun loving observation, the star also teased she’d love to feature in the most outrageous ever soap plot, where Diane is unveiled as a “superhero”.

Carolyn, speaking at the launch of the spring issue of Aspiring Magazine outlined suggestions for 2026’s General Hospital.

She said: “We really don’t have a sense of what Diane’s past was, so I’ve given her a past that She comes from circus folk. And I would love to see Damien Spinelli as Diane’s long lost son.

“I would also love to see Diane open a speakeasy on the wrong side of the tracks where she’s draped over the piano five nights a wee, like The Fabulous Baker Boys. And I get to sing.”

Carolyn revealed that she suggested the lounge singer career move: “Of course I have. And Frank Valentini (Executive Producer) , he’s got so much else on his plate.

“He’s like, ‘I know you sing. Maybe someday we’ll see.’

“I also think Diane and Alexis should somehow someway be forced to become cat burglars. Fans already want to see Spinelli as my boy.

“And now that the cabaret act that I’ve got is kind of becoming more well known, people are saying, when are you going to sing? “It’s like, I don’t know, start that writing campaign.”

In another light moment, Carolyn reflected on how executives could deliver daytime telly’s wildest ever plot for Diane.

“Top of the Empire State Building. Diane hang glides off and through very sort of Marvel comics kind of film.

“She hang glides through the buildings and lands in Newark. She does that on a dare. And while she’s in the middle of it before she lands in Newark, she’s abducted by aliens.

“Diane Miller is a superhero and she hasn’t actually discovered her superpowers yet. So there you go.”

Carolyn added that Diane’s journey has been pretty normal: “I haven’t had my organs harvested or been possessed or been killed off and brought back as my twin. No, and it’s interesting because I thought I was in my 18th year, but now that I guess I’m in my 19th year, my gosh, 20 is right around the corner. What is happening? I know it started out really literally as a two-day role, a two-episode role. So it just goes to show you for any aspiring actors and actresses out there, you never know!”

The Dawson’s Creek star already has a link to Spinelli having penned the 2011 fictional novel The Secret Life of Damian Spinelli about GH characters.

“The General Hospital fans are without question some of the smartest, most invested they are and some of the politest and just well-versed in sort of everything television, but certainly about General Hospital.

“And so when they come to you, their love is actually truly genuine because they know that we are giving our all.
