During a recent appearance at Los Angeles Comic Con, co-creator and executive producer Steve Holland teased their eventual divorce and what that could mean for the future of Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage.
“You don’t think about it when you make a one-off joke on a show about characters you’ve never seen eight years ago, that suddenly this joke is gonna come back and bite you in the a–,” Holland exclusively told MovieWeb on Saturday, Sept. 27.
A similar situation happened with the death of George Cooper Sr. (Lance Barber). His passing was casually mentioned in an episode of Big Bang Theory, eventually making it necessary to address his death in the final season of Young Sheldon. According to Holland, Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage will follow suit.
“Sometimes boxes are interesting to have to write yourself into and out of. So, we’re aware of that and we will honor canon. We don’t know. We don’t have a timeline for it. The great thing is they could go six years and split up and get back together again. They could do on-and-off. I mean, we don’t have a grand plan for it.”

“There’s all these things that are gonna rear its ugly head and those things are great because they make for good stories, but they’ll also make for some trials and tribulations in that relationship.”
When it comes to Osment and Jordan, they both shared that their characters’ eventual split doesn’t affect how they play their roles or interpret the scripts.
“We ain’t looking at no divorce,” Jordan joked to MovieWeb at the bustling fan convention. “We’re staying together forever.”
