Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 3 Brought Back Mary and Missy For Its Best Arc Yet

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is better when Mary and Missy pop up.

The show needs to stand on its own, and for the most part, it does, but when George’s family is involved in the story, it’s somehow more compelling.

This particular crossover appearance on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 3 was especially emotional, and I loved every minute of it.

Georgie Not Wanting His Mother To Move On Was A Serious And Realistic Conflict

Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 3 was a huge improvement over the previous episode because it was about something real.

Instead of a silly conflict over the attention Mandy was getting for being the weather girl, Georgie struggled with learning that Mary was dating again, and he and Mandy couldn’t see eye-to-eye about it.

George’s untimely death impacted everyone in the Cooper family (yes, even Sheldon!), and that loss should be part of the dynamic between Georgie and Mandy.

When Georgie was initially introduced on The Big Bang Theory, he resented having to take care of Mary and Missy while Sheldon was in California. Still, we’ve had little to no of that storyline so far.

I don’t mind that deviation from canon — I prefer Georgie trying to establish relationships with Mandy’s family while still being there for his own, to the angry, bitter version we got on The Big Bang Theory.

But SOMETHING needs to happen regularly to demonstrate how George’s death leaks into Georgie’s relationships with the McAllisters.

Georgie’s insistence that his mother shouldn’t date was a good start.

Surprisingly, Missy Is Okay With It (Maybe)

Missy was a total Daddy’s girl who began to spiral after George’s death at the end of Young Sheldon, but she was totally cool with Mary dating again.

Of course, that’s partially because she wanted her mom out of the house so she could throw wild parties or do whatever she wanted without an adult standing over her shoulder.

Missy has resented Mary’s overfocus on her since her father died and Sheldon left, and she’s continuing to act out, which will cause problems for everyone sooner or later and could lead to a situation where Georgie feels responsible for his sister on top of everything else he needs to do.

That will lead to some meaty conflicts for Georgie and Mandy, the kind that could push their marriage to the brink.

So Far, Mandy Is Being Supportive Even If She Doesn’t Fully Understand

Mandy disagreed with Georgie about Mary’s dating life and went so far as to keep it a secret that Mary was dating again.

That could have been a serious problem. It’s really not fair for Mary to expect Mandy to be in the middle like that.

Mandy: You want to talk about it?

Georgie: What is there to talk about? I’m wrong. I should just move on.

Mandy: There is no right or wrong.

I’m not sure how long that’ll last, unfortunately.

We know that this season, Georgie and Mandy’s marriage will be tested like never before, and that the show title — and Georgie’s history in The Big Bang Theory — suggest Georgie and Mandy are eventually headed for divorce.

Georgie’s resentment that Mandy has two living parents could become a problem.

Audrey and Jim’s Story Showed How George’s Death Affected Them Too

It was risky for Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage to do a story around Audrey and Jim contemplating death.

Death is a sensitive subject, and when comedies mishandle it, it can make people uncomfortable, especially if they tuned in to laugh.

Should Audrey and Jim consider leaving everything to Georgie?

Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage pulled it off, though.

The funniest scene in the entire episode was when Mandy and Connor unwittingly proved Jim’s point by giving ridiculous answers to the question of what they would do if they won a large sum of money.

Of course, a hypothetical about winning money is very different from inheriting it.

When her parents pass away, Mandy will likely be grieving and not thinking about going on a shopping spree, at least at first, and if Georgie is still in her life, he can help her decide what to do with the money.

Leaving it all to Georgie could cause a rift within the surviving family members, especially if Mandy and Georgie are divorced by then.

That’s not anything I want to sit through, so hopefully Audrey and Jim live long lives and their eventual death and aftermath are off-screen!

Still, these scenes managed to make a serious topic hilarious, which made the story worth it.
