“We know some things that are going to happen in the story of Georgie, but we don’t know when,” Holland explained to Deadline. “That gives us a lot of freedom to sort our way through and find a way to get those points in a way that will feel natural and surprising.”
“The fact that you know it’s gonna happen is like a sword hanging over their relationship. You don’t know when, but you know at some point it’s gonna drop.”
Georgie and Mandy have already weathered their fair share of relationship issues over the years, from his lies about his age to financial issues and even parenthood. This season, their marriage may begin to show more cracks as Georgie wrestles with jealousy. Fans recall that Mandy secretly took a job working with her ex-boyfriend Scott (Christopher Gorham) as a weather reporter back in Season 1. While she eventually came clean about who her boss was, Holland revealed that the situation still doesn’t “sit great with Georgie.”
“There’s an episode coming up where she’s going out of town to cover a weather story and Scott is going with her. Georgie is really unhappy that she’s going out of town, just as Mandy starts to get some recognition from her weather job. Jealousy is something we haven’t really dealt that much with before, but he’s a young guy, and he hasn’t had a lot of relationship experience. Georgie is starting to experience jealousy for the first time.”
Georgie and Mandy’s Fate Was Sealed by a ‘Big Bang Theory’ Joke
Years before Georgie and Mandy were introduced on-screen, Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) effectively ended their marriage with an innocent comment. In a Season 12 episode of Big Bang Theory, he referenced getting text messages from “my brother’s ex-wife” and “my brother’s other ex-wife.” Since Georgie married Mandy when he was only around 18 or 19 years old, this meant that not only would his relationship with her come to a heartbreaking end, but that he would eventually have a second failed marriage as well.
“You don’t think about it when you make a one-off joke on a show about characters you’ve never seen eight years ago, that suddenly this joke is gonna come back and bite you in the a–,” Holland exclusively told MovieWeb at Los Angeles Comic Con 2025 in September.
“Sometimes boxes are interesting to have to write yourself into and out of. So, we’re aware of that and we will honor canon…The great thing is they could go six years and split up and get back together again. They could do on-and-off. I mean, we don’t have a grand plan for it.”
