Gerry Turner Wasn’t Happy With Theresa Nist’s Retirement Plans — And It May Have Sealed Their Split md18

Before their shocking divorce announcement, Gerry Turner had clearly shown resentment towards Theresa Nist’s career plans

Gerry Turner tying the knot with Theresa Nist on the finale episode of The Golden Bachelor was one of the most watched episodes in the Bachelor franchise in recent years. However, the romance didn’t last long, as Turner and Nist went separate ways just three months after their televised marriage. In the months following the separation, fans have dug through their time together and found hints of their incompatibility.

The retired restaurateur from Hudson, Indiana, was asked to be the face of ABC’s The Golden Bachelor, a spin-off of The Bachelor, featuring a cast of senior citizens. Turner picked out Nist out of the three finalists, which also included Faith Martin and Leslie Fhima.

The Golden Bachelor‘s Gerry Turner Was Not Happy With Theresa Nist’s Career

Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist appeared on Good Morning America, just three months after tying the knot on The Golden Bachelor finale, to announce their divorce. They shared that they closely assessed their situation and came to the mutual conclusion to dissolve their marriage. Fans of the show were shocked at the announcement after the couple received immense support from the fanbase of the Bachelor franchise.

While they explained the distance between them and the reluctance to leave behind family as the reason for the split, there were more pressing issues. Turner and Nist discussed their well-publicized marriage during an appearance on Dear Shandy Podcast. Turner revealed one issue that may have proved to be the dealbreaker in their marriage.

Turner was not happy with Nist’s career and retirement plans. He had retired from his thriving career years ago and wanted to have fun and adventure. However, he was concerned that he couldn’t start having them soon due to Nist’s career. Turner shared on the podcast:

I wanted fun, adventure. I wanted to go and do. So that is the crux of it, right now, is – when does that start?

Nist didn’t have a plan for her retirement and it was justified, considering she started her career late in her 40s. According to the NY Daily News, she was listed as a financial service professional. She revealed that she had taught herself everything she needed to know about the stock market. She later revealed on the show that she worked as a senior compliance liaison for a wealth management company.

Interestingly, Turner’s choice of all three finalists was working women, a choice he should’ve made wisely if he had other plans for his future. Fans definitely didn’t expect this outcome for The Golden Wedding between Turner and Nist.

The Franchise Is Eyeing A PR Comeback With The Golden Bachelorette

While the marriage ended in disaster, The Golden Bachelor was a major hit for ABC. According to Variety, the finale episode was viewed by 6.1 million people, making it one of the recent success stories of the long-running franchise. In February 2024, the network announced The Golden Bachelorette, a spin-off from The Bachelorette franchise (via Deadline).

The show invited private school administrator Joan Vassos, a 61-year-old widow from Rockville, Maryland, to be its face. Vassos was previously a contestant on The Golden Bachelor. She will pick out her partner from the 24 contestants on the show. All the contestants were announced on August 13, 2024, with notable names including Gary Levingston, godson of Tina Turner, and Mark Anderson, father of Bachelor Season 28 winner Kelsey Anderson.
