It’s been a long road, but on next week’s season finale of The Good Doctor, Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Lea (Paige Spara) will finally say “I do.” — and EW has an exclusive first look.
The nuptials have been a long time coming for the pair, who got engaged during the season 4 finale but hit a rough patch earlier this season after Lea altered Shaun’s patient report card scores without telling him, leading Shaun to break down and tell her he could no longer marry her.
“We are a show about hope. There is always hope,” showrunner David Shore told EW back in February. “We want to deal with real issues and real people and decent people trying to do their best and facing challenges. And sometimes things work out, and sometimes they don’t, but we don’t always have the happy ending, as evidenced by where we left off. But we want to have the happy ending, and more often than not we will.”
Check out the exclusive first look at the promo above for next week’s finale, titled “Sons,” as well as promotional images below for the momentous — and potentially life-changing — hour. According to the episode description, “Shaun and Lea make a big life decision and are pleasantly surprised by the support they receive from their friends at the hospital. Meanwhile, when Dr. Wolke’s parents show up with a revelation, Asher struggles to accept that he and his father may never truly understand one another.”
