Ghosts’ Danielle Pinnock Teases Alberta’s Romantic Future: ‘It’s Been 100 Years, Baby’

Danielle Pinnock is thrilled for what’s to come in season 3 of Ghosts, calling it the “best season” the cast has had “thus far.”

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at Essence’s Black Women in Hollywood Awards, the actress shared her excitement about the new direction the show is taking. “We are doing huge departures in what audiences expect from a broadcast comedy,” Pinnock, 35, said. “We are taking risks. I believe in my heart of hearts, this is our award-winning season.”

When it comes to her character, Alberta Haynes—the bold, Prohibition-era jazz singer who met her untimely death from poisoned moonshine—Pinnock teased a major development. “Alberta may get a love interest,” she revealed with a wink. “It’s been 100 years, baby, we gotta dust the cobwebs off! The ghosts are in love and they’re finding themselves.”

Pinnock also praised the work of Ghosts leads Rose McIver (Sam) and Utkarsh Ambudkar (Jay), saying, “They are really bringing just life to our afterlife in a real way. I think people are gonna love this season. It’s fabulous.”

Since its debut in 2021, Ghosts has grown in popularity, with Season 3 now drawing even more acclaim. McIver stars as Samantha, a journalist who moves into a historic home, only to find that it’s haunted by a variety of quirky spirits. With each passing season, the show continues to find success, both with viewers and in the celebrity world.

Mark Hamill was among the first to voice his admiration for the show after its Season 2 renewal, tweeting, “This IS a surprise to me (seems as though everything I like gets canceled), but a WONDERFUL surprise indeed.” He called Ghosts “smart, witty, whimsical, very funny with a BRILLIANT cast.”

Tara Reid, who was name-dropped by Asher Grodman’s character Trevor Lefkowitz in the series, even made an appearance on the show in Season 2 after expressing her love for the show on social media. Grodman reflected on the excitement of Reid’s tweet, sharing, “We all geeked out. I can’t believe the wild ride that this show has been on, out of the pandemic, and now people are watching and wanting to be on this show.”

With Alberta’s new love interest and a fresh direction for the series, Season 3 of Ghosts promises to be one to remember. Fans can look forward to more surprises and heartwarming moments as the ghosts continue to navigate the afterlife—and perhaps a little romance too.
