Ghosts: Every Power of the Spirits at Woodstone Mansion, Explained

In CBS’s Ghosts, the spirits of Woodstone Mansion each have unique powers, making life interesting (and often chaotic) for Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar). Inspired by the British series Ghosts UK, both shows feature characters who inherit a mansion teeming with ghostly residents, each with their own quirks and supernatural abilities. While some of the ghosts reveal their powers in the pilot episode, others emerge gradually, adding layers to the characters as the series progresses.

Thor Can Manipulate Electricity

Thor (Devan Chandler Long), a Viking and the oldest spirit in the house, has the ability to control electricity. His power, which emerged in Season 1, Episode 1, stems from his death by lightning strike, connecting him to electric currents. This power mirrors that of Robin in Ghosts UK, who also died by lightning. Thor’s abilities become evident when he uses them to attempt a haunting that would drive Sam and Jay away. Later, in Season 1, Episode 5, “Halloween,” he unintentionally sets fire to Sam and Jay’s gazebo with a spark, though the couple initially attributes it to their old electrical wiring.

Sasappis Can Enter Dreams

Sasappis (Román Zaragoza), a Lenape spirit, can enter people’s dreams by hovering his hand over their heads as they sleep. Revealed in Ghosts Season 3, Episode 2, “Man of Your Dreams,” Sasappis uses this skill to communicate directly with Jay, crafting narratives within his dreams to convince him to act on certain things. For instance, Sasappis takes on different personas, like a basketball referee and a fortune-teller, to influence Jay’s decisions about installing a pizza oven and hanging a TV for Sam. Although his appearances allow him to temporarily change out of his usual attire, this power remains one of the series’ more underutilized abilities, as Sasappis is the only ghost who can connect with Jay in this unique way.

Other Powers Revealed and Yet to Come

As Ghosts continues, additional powers for the Woodstone spirits may emerge, as each ghost’s unique death ties into their abilities and adds to the lore of the show. Whether trying to communicate with the living, enact small hauntings, or navigate their own supernatural afterlife, the spirits’ powers are integral to their personalities and to the lively, haunting atmosphere at Woodstone Mansion. With each new season, Ghosts promises more surprises, keeping fans guessing about the next power to be unveiled.
