Ghosts Season 4’s Best Recurring Joke Makes Me So Frustrated About The Lack Of Development On 1 Aspect Of Sass’ Story
Although Ghosts season 4, episode 16 might not have been about Sass, I’m still more certain than ever that the sitcom will make up for this soon. The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts share the spotlight, with each member of the sitcom’s ensemble cast getting a lead role once every few episodes. Ghosts season 4’s cast of characters might have introduced new ghosts like Mary Holland’s Patience and Deniz Akdeniz’s Chris, but the majority of the show’s outings still center Isaac, Trevor, Alberta, Hetty, Flower, Thor, Pete, and Sass.
Since the show’s lineup is so large, I wasn’t shocked when Ghosts season 4’s fun new spirit Chris only lasted one episode before he moved on from the Woodstone Mansion. The sitcom doesn’t have sufficient screen time to explore more characters when the current cast already have to wait a few episodes to get a look in. Even then, many subplots are often dropped for weeks at a time. Perhaps the most egregious instance of this in Ghosts season 4 comes courtesy of Sass.
Ghosts Season 4 Episode 16 Brought Up Sass’s Lack of Romantic Experience (Again)
Sass’s promising plot from the first half of the season still hasn’t resurfaced despite a running gag about his personal history. In season 4, episode 5, “A Star Is Dead,” Sass tried to date Marisa, an actor from a local drama group, when she appeared in Jay’s dreams. Initially, this seemed to work, but Sass soon realized that the version of Marisa he was speaking to was actually just part of Jay’s mind. This meant he was technically trying to date Jay, sending the lovelorn ghost back to the proverbial drawing board.
Pete promised to finally use his powers to help others by finding Sass a love interest.
Sass’ sad lack of a love life has been mentioned repeatedly throughout season 4, with Flower drawing attention to the fact that he died a virgin despite his repeated attempts to stop her. While Ghosts season 4 used Trevor’s powers repeatedly, the series has yet to deliver on Pete’s promise to Sass. After spending weeks boasting about his ability to leave the mansion to anyone who would listen, Pete promised to finally use these powers to help others by finding Sass a love interest. However, over ten episodes later, nothing has come of this promise.
