CBS’s Ghosts season 4 sees a new spirit join the show’s cast of living and dead characters. The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts make up most of the show’s cast, but their living co-stars are central to the story of the series. Based on the British sitcom of the same name from 2019, Ghosts tells the story of Sam and Jay, a happy couple who inherit a massive mansion from a distant relative. Upon their arrival, Sam has a near-death experience and gains the ability to see, hear, and talk to the house’s ghostly inhabitants.

As Ghosts season 4’s premiere approaches, news of the hit CBS sitcom’s upcoming spinoffs proves that a crossover could perfect for the show’s future.
By Ghosts season 4, Sam and Jay have thoroughly acclimated to life among the ghosts, although only Sam can communicate with them. The show’s lineup of ghosts has remained largely unchanged since its first season, with the series introducing the central lineup of Sass, Trevor, Hetty, Thor, Isaac, Alberta, Flower, and Pete back in its pilot episode. However, season 4 will change this as Isaac’s kidnapping from season 3’s cliffhanger finale introduces a new ghost to join the mansion’s inhabitants. This latest addition to the cast, like Sam and Jay’s actors, has an impressive existing screen CV.
Rose Mciver as Sam Arondekar
October 10, 1988
Active since 1993
Born in Auckland, Rose McIver has been working as an actor since she was only two years old. She appeared in a series of TV shows based in New Zealand, including Xena: Warrior Princess and Legend of the Seeker, and her move to America saw her gain recurring roles in Masters of Sex and Once Upon A Time. However, it was her breakthrough role in iZombie that made McIver a star. Since then, she has starred as the heroine of Netflix’s popular A Christmas Prince series, as well as appearing in the movies Next Exit and Daffodils.
Sam is the heroine of Ghosts and, as the only human character who can speak to the Woodstone B&B’s undead inhabitants, a pivotal figure in the show. Her character is based on Charlotte Richie’s Alison from the original BBC show, although Sam is flightier than her British counterpart.
Mary Holland as Patience
June 24, 1985
Active since 2014
Born in Galax, Virginia, Mary Holland had minor roles in a string of shows from 2013 until 2020. She appeared in episodes of Parks and Recreation, Silicon Valley, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Mindy Project, The Good Place, New Girl, Veep, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but it was 2020’s Christmas dramedy Happiest Season that provided Holland with her breakthrough role. Holland played the quirky supporting star Jane, an unhinged artist who proved to be the heart of her dysfunctional family. Since then, Holland has also appeared in the movies Self Reliance, Maggie Moore(s), and the upcoming Nightbitch.
Holland will bring the same combination of sweetness and unnerving intensity to the part of Patience in Ghosts season 4. A Puritan who kidnapped Isaac in the season 3 finale, Ghosts season 4’s new character has been called “Creepy” by one of Ghosts’ stars in a TVLine interview, but is ultimately well-meaning.
Utkarsh Ambudkar as Jay Arondekar
December 8, 1983
Active since 2007
Born in Baltimore, Utkarsh Ambudkar rose to prominence in 2012 with a supporting role in Pitch Perfect. He followed this with roles in Basmati Blues, Blindspotting, Brittany Runs A Marathon, The Broken Hearts Gallery, and Godmothered, as well as guest roles in The Simpsons, Brockmire, Never Have I Ever, Robot Chicken, and Blindspotting’s TV spinoff series of the same name. Ambudkar also had a recurring role in 2022’s acclaimed The Dropout.
Jay is Sam’s partner in Ghosts and one of the Woodstone Manor’s more level-headed residents. Although he can’t see, hear, or talk to the ghosts, he is still often dragged into their antics in his attempts to support Sam. Ghosts season 4 will see Jay gain the ability to see ghosts, which may change this dynamic.
