If Ghosts‘ new spirit has her way, Isaac will be in captivity for a very long time.
In TVLine’s exclusive promo for Season 4 of the CBS hit (premiering Thursday, Oct. 17, at 8:30/7:30c), we get our first look at Mary Holland (Veep) in action as Puritan ghost Patience, who dragged Isaac into the dirt in last May’s season finale.
“We shall spend eternity here,” Patience declares, and Isaac is sort of on board.
“Who wouldn’t enjoy staring at that gorgeous, porcelain skin?” he says, to which Mary replies, “‘Tis from the bloodletting that killed me.” (Speaking of her death, co-showrunner Joe Port told TVLine that Patience’s power is “related to the manner in which she died.”)
Although Patience and Isaac have a troubled history — he inadvertently left her behind in the dirt many, many years ago — the two will actually end up bonding.
“She connects with, ironically, Isaac quite a bit,” Port told TVLine during our Fall Preview Q&A. “I think she’s interested in having a group and being part of a group again, and she yearns for that kind of acceptance and is hopeful that, despite her rough edges, that she can find friends amongst the ghosts at Woodstone.”
“[Patience] brings some fun energy. We kind of lean into a little bit sort of, like, a horror trope,” co-showrunner Joe Wiseman adds. “She’s meant to be funny but also a little scary. She’s someone who’s sort of out for revenge and has taken one of our characters. So she brings a nice flavor that we haven’t seen a whole lot of at Woodstone.”
Also spotted in the above video is perhaps Pete’s new smugness, courtesy of his ghost power; a glimpse of Dean Norris (Breaking Bad) as Sam’s dad in Episode 2; and Jay digging… a grave? Or is it a passageway to find Isaac?
