Ghosts Season 4 Update: Showrunners Confirm One Spirit Will Not Discover Their Powers

Ghosts showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman have announced that one particular spirit will not be discovering their powers in the upcoming episodes of Season 4, despite the long wait for fans. This season is set to bring significant changes to the Woodstone Bed & Breakfast, including a new threat from the Puritan ghost Patience (Mary Holland). The premiere will also focus on the group’s efforts to find Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones), who has been captured by this vengeful newcomer. Notably, this will be the first full 22-episode season since Season 2.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Port and Wiseman revealed that Season 4 likely won’t showcase any powers for Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky), the manor’s lady who died in 1895. The decision seems to stem from the numerous events planned for this season, which will feature 10 major characters, guest stars, and multiple storylines. One subplot involves Pete (Richie Moriarity) discovering more about his ability to leave the mansion, while Sass (Román Zaragoza) continues to enter Jay’s (Utkarsh Ambudkar) dreams.

What Hetty’s Lack of Powers Means for Season 4

Despite being a significant character since the show’s inception, Hetty’s powers remain a mystery. Speculation has circulated about her ability to send people to Hell, but this has never been confirmed. Wisocky stated back in 2022 that this was not the case. Given that Season 4 will focus on other developments, it seems fans may have to wait even longer for clarity on her abilities.

With Hetty’s powers sidelined, Port and Wiseman have ambitious plans for other characters. The upcoming season will delve into existing powers and introduce new ones, with Jay gaining the ability to see the ghosts at the Bed & Breakfast. This storyline could play a central role throughout the season, alongside Sass finding a love interest and the introduction of Jay’s parents. With so many narratives already in play, Hetty may take a backseat this season.

Our Thoughts on Hetty Not Gaining Powers in Season 4

It’s disappointing that Hetty’s powers, first hinted at in Season 1, won’t be revealed during this lengthy 22-episode stretch. While there’s a chance Port and Wiseman might reconsider and unveil her powers in later episodes, the packed storyline makes this unlikely. At least their comments suggest there are plans for her powers to be addressed in the future, even if it takes some time to get there.
