Ghosts has become known for its emotional season finales, each with unexpected twists, often leaving fans with plenty of questions. Last season’s cliffhanger was no exception, with Revolutionary War ghost Isaac Higgintoot (Brandon Scott Jones) abruptly vanishing after his wedding with Nigel (John Hartman) ended. He was pulled underground by his old acquaintance Patience (Mary Holland), a Puritan ghost holding a grudge from centuries ago. According to showrunners Joe Wiseman and Joe Port, viewers will soon get answers about Isaac’s mysterious disappearance and Patience’s motives.
Wiseman promises that the opening episodes of Season 4 will dive into Patience’s backstory and explain her connection to Isaac, revealing her unresolved resentment from being left behind in the 1800s. Showrunner Joe Port hints that viewers will get to see who Patience was in life, how that shaped her haunting grudge against Isaac, and what she has in store for him now. Brandon Scott Jones teases a new, tense dynamic at Woodstone: “Patience has some vengeance she’s looking to settle with Isaac, and even though she’s targeting him, it’s going to send ripples through the house. The Woodstone ghosts are like one tight organism, so any disruption affects everyone.”
Aside from Isaac and Patience, Season 4 promises more for several other ghosts and their evolving powers and relationships. Pete (Richie Moriarty) will continue exploring his newfound ability to travel beyond the property, which showrunner Wiseman says has him “a little smug.” Fans can expect Pete to use his new freedom both for selfish escapades and to help others.
Thorfinn (Devan Chandler Long) and Flower (Sheila Carrasco) will also be adjusting to their new relationship, minus basement ghost Nancy (Betsy Sodaro). Showrunner Wiseman hints that Flower will find it challenging to embrace monogamy, so fans can expect some humorous adjustments in their budding romance.
In addition to character arcs, Season 4 will expand the supernatural world within Woodstone. Fans can expect the introduction of a new animal ghost and a previously unseen room in the house. But perhaps the most exciting development is the possibility of Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) finally seeing the ghosts. Scott Jones teases, “It’ll be so fun to finally make eye contact. I think Isaac has stared at Jay a lot, but Jay’s never seen him.” This revelation could bring a fresh dynamic to Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay’s relationship as they navigate the world of the afterlife together.
With a 22-episode run, Season 4 promises to be packed with answers, twists, and new ghostly drama that fans won’t want to miss.
