While one supporting star from CBS’s Ghosts boasted a pretty stagnant character arc in recent years, season 4 already promised to reverse this issue with its premiere. Although Sam and Jay may technically be the main characters of the series, the ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts are often the show’s most intriguing cast members. Every undead resident of the Woodstone B&B has some unfinished business that has kept their souls trapped on the property after their earthly demise and, while many of them live a comfortable existence, it is clear that they all need to learn their own personal lessons.
Fortunately, the cast of Ghosts season 4 is mostly up to this task. From Hetty gradually shedding her ice queen exterior to Thor finally reuniting with his son Bjorn, the ghosts have grown a lot since the series began. Despite this trend toward character growth, there are a few major characters who remain obstinately stuck in their old personalities. Most notably, Brandon Scott Jones’ Isaac Higgintoot has struggled to grow more thoughtful or accommodating since the arrival of Jay and Sam. Ghosts season 4’s new character Patience means that his story may finally be starting to change.
Ghosts Season 4 Episode 1 Started To Redeem Isaac
Throughout Ghosts seasons 2 and 3, Isaac had a lot of opportunities for character development that never really took off. His relationship with Nigel did see him come to terms with his sexuality, but his commitment issues still stopped him from taking his engagement seriously, and he ended the relationship thoughtlessly. While he is admittedly a loyal friend, Isaac’s love of drama and self-centered attitude make him a terrible romantic partner and a character ripe for a redemption arc. This didn’t arrive in season 3, and he ended up being taken hostage by Mary Holland’s vengeful Puritan Patience in the finale.
Luckily, Isaac finally turned a new leaf in season 4, episode 1, “Patience,” when he swore to Sass that he would change his ways if he escaped the dirt and Sass held him to this promise. Isaac’s Ghosts season 4 redemption arc has plenty of potential since he has been such an arrogant and self-important character over the years, and “Patience” proves that this storyline may finally begin in earnest. Now that the ghosts banded together to save Patience from the dirt, Isaac could make up for accidentally leaving her behind by helping her acclimate to life outside.
Isaac’s Ghosts Season 4 Redemption Was Overdue
Like Hetty, Isaac is an undeniably funny character precisely because of his outsized flaws. However, unlike the former lady of Woodstone Manor, Isaac gets a ton of screen time and serious story focus from Ghosts. If Ghosts season 4’s story centered on Hetty, she too would need a more redemptive storyline. Isaac’s entitlement and callousness have simply grown tiresome since these elements of his character have received so much attention in recent years, meaning it is no longer surprising or outrageous when he acts in his own interest. As such, his Ghosts season 4 redemption arc is perfectly timed.
