Although Ghosts season 3 effectively forgot about Thor’s son Bjorn, the CBS sitcom promises to bring back his plot in the upcoming season 4. There are a lot of ghosts in CBS’s Ghosts, so it is no surprise that the show occasionally forgets to update viewers on all their relationships. After all, every episode also has to make room for Sam and Jay’s antics, not to mention filling in the details of each ghost’s backstory. Fortunately, Ghosts season 4 has a chance to revisit the abandoned storylines of some of the house’s long-time residents from earlier seasons.
Although Ghosts season 4 won’t crossover with its British inspiration, the sitcom will bring back characters glimpsed earlier in the show’s history. Patience, the creepy Puritan who kidnapped Isaac in season 3’s finale, will now be played by Happiest Season’s breakout star Mary Holland. After years of Sam’s late mother playing a supporting role in the show, Sam’s father will appear in Ghosts season 4, played by Breaking Bad’s Dean Norris. Meanwhile, one character who cropped up in a season 2 episode only to later disappear will make their long-awaited return to the Woodstone B&B.
Bjorn’s Return In Ghosts Season 4 Revives Thor’s Father Arc
According to TVLine, showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman said that Thor’s son Bjorn will return in Ghosts season 2. Bjorn was first introduced in season 2, episode 6, “The Baby Bjorn,” wherein it was revealed that he spent his life searching for his father only to die within shouting distance of him. Sam reunited Bjorn and Thor, only to regret this when the pair began conversing by shouting from the Woodstone B&B to the neighboring Farnsby house, Bjorn’s resting place. This Ghosts season 2 episode fleshed out Thor’s story as the Viking struggled with parenthood.
Thor was initially horrified to discover his son didn’t share his hatred of Danes, but he warmed to Bjorn when the ghost called him “Father.” The pair appeared to sustain a happy friendship off-screen in the episodes since, but Bjorn’s only substantial role was in season 2, episode 11, “The Perfect Assistant.” Since that outing’s subplot, he was largely forgotten as season 3’s Thor arc revolved around his relationship with Flower. Thus, it is good news that Ghosts season 4 is bringing back Bjorn, since this could facilitate a fresh storyline about Thor’s belated attempts at fathering.
What Bjorn’s Return Can Mean For Thor & Flower’s Romance In Ghosts Season 4
In season 2, episode 13, “Ghost Hunter,” Thor and Flower finally hooked up after getting temporarily stuck in the same ghost trap. The pair had chemistry since the series began, but this was the start of their serious romantic relationship. Since then, most of Thor’s storylines have revolved around Flower. Even during Flower’s multi-episode absence, Thor’s character arc was primarily concerned with his love interest. Ghosts season 4 can change this status quo by bringing back Bjorn, reintroducing viewers to another side of the Viking. As such, it is promising news to hear that Bjorn will return in Ghosts season 4.
