“Gloria Reuben Shakes Up ‘Blue Bloods’ Universe With ‘Boston Blue’—Everything You Need To Know!”

CBS‘ Boston Blue has cast another key member of the Silver family. ER alumna Gloria Reuben has been tapped as a series regular on the upcoming Blue Bloods universe series. She joins previously cast Donnie Wahlberg, Sonequa Martin-Green, Ernie Hudson and Maggie Lawson. In Boston Blue, Wahlberg will reprise his Blue Bloods role as NYPD Officer Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with Detective Lena Silver (Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.

Reuben will play Mae Silver, Boston’s District Attorney and the matriarch of a blended family of law enforcement professionals. The widow of a judge who was murdered on the courthouse steps, Mae endeavors to put family ahead of work whenever possible. Her daughter is Lena, and her stepdaughter Sarah (Lawson) is the Police Superintendent. Her son Jonah is a rookie cop; her father is Reverend Peters (Hudson). Mae is accustomed to making decisions and standing by them.

The Boston Blue casting directors may not have looked too far for Mae: Reuben and Martin-Green are coming off the movie My Dead Friend Zoe, released in February, in which they also played mother and daughter. Boston Blue is produced by CBS Studios in association with Jerry Bruckheimer TV. Brandon Sonnier & Brandon Margolis will showrun and executive produce. Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed and Wahlberg also will serve as executive producers. Anthony Hemingway will direct and executive produce the first episode. The series will premiere this fall, airing in Blue Bloods’ Friday 10 PM time slot.

This actually marks Reuben’s return to the Blue Bloods universe — she did a two-episode arc as an ATF agent on the original series in 2021. At CBS and CBS Studios, she also recently guest starred on Elsbeth. Twice Emmy-nominated for her role on ER, Reuben co-stars opposite Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks in the Amazon limited series The Better Sister. She is repped by Paradigm and Goodan Genow Schenkman.
