CBS has officially confirmed that Emmy-nominated actress Gloria Reuben will join the cast of Boston Blue, the highly anticipated spinoff of the long-running police drama Blue Bloods. The new series will expand the Blue Bloods universe while introducing a fresh family dynamic and a new city: Boston.
Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver
In Boston Blue, Reuben plays Mae Silver, the formidable District Attorney of Boston and the head of a powerful and politically connected family. Mae is a widow still haunted by the public murder of her husband, and she’s determined to hold her family together despite their many differences.
At home, Mae juggles the emotional weight of her loss and the pressure of her family’s legacy. At work, she’s a sharp legal mind who doesn’t back down from difficult decisions — a force to be reckoned with in both the courtroom and her community.
A New Reagan-Silver Partnership
The series will star Donnie Wahlberg, reprising his iconic Blue Bloods role as Detective Danny Reagan, who now transfers from the NYPD to the Boston Police Department. He’s partnered with Detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, the oldest daughter of Mae Silver.
This pairing brings together two very different but passionate detectives who must navigate personal tensions and professional challenges. Their partnership is expected to be one of the core dynamics of the show.
Additional Cast and Creative Team
The cast also includes:
- Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters, Mae’s father and a legendary figure in Boston’s Black church community.
- Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Mae’s stepdaughter and the city’s new Police Superintendent.
Boston Blue is developed by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, known for their work on The Blacklist. The pilot will be directed by Anthony Hemingway, whose previous credits include The Wire, Power, and American Crime Story.
Executive producers include Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Donnie Wahlberg himself, ensuring that the show maintains the action-packed, emotionally grounded tone fans love.
When and Where to Watch
Boston Blue is slated to premiere in Fall 2025, occupying the Friday 10 PM time slot previously held by Blue Bloods. The show aims to retain the procedural, family-focused storytelling of its predecessor while bringing in new energy and perspectives.
Not Reuben’s First Time in the Blue Bloods Universe
Gloria Reuben is no stranger to Blue Bloods fans. In 2021, she guest-starred as ATF Agent Rachel Weber in two episodes of the original series. Her promotion to a lead role in Boston Blue marks a significant evolution in her connection to the franchise.
Reuben also previously worked with Sonequa Martin-Green in the independent drama My Dead Friend Zoe, where they also played a mother-daughter duo — a connection that adds depth to their onscreen chemistry.
What to Expect from ‘Boston Blue’
The new spinoff promises to explore law enforcement, justice, family loyalty, and political influence through the lens of a complex and diverse household. Unlike the Reagans in Blue Bloods, the Silver family is a blended, multi-generational group, with competing viewpoints and powerful roles in the city of Boston.
