But as the show runs through its two-part finale, questions about the character’s fate are on the rise.
Who is Dr. Glassman in The Good Doctor?
Played by Richard Schiff, Dr. Glassman in The Good Doctor is a neurosurgeon at San Jones St. Bonaventure who has been practising for 30 years.
He was once married to his wife Ilana and had a daughter, Maddie, whom Glassman loved dearly.
However, throughout the seasons of the show, viewers are shown the troubled relationship between the doctor and his daughter – who was a drug addict.
As opposed to getting her help, Glassman frequently fought with her daughter – and even her out of the house one night.
Maddie later dies due to a drug overdose – and Glassman, who besides their troubled relationship loved and cared for her daughter, is left with regrets.
Following his daughter’s death, Glassman becomes way too involved in his work – and his controlling behaviour leads to his divorce from Ilana.
He then moves to Casper, Wyoming where he starts to practice as a family doctor.
Throughout the story, Glassman is shown to have arrogant, grouchy and controlling tendencies.
But the doctor does care for others: he loved Maddie while she was growing up and raised Shaun – the protagonist of the show – like his own.
Glassman’s cancer scare and chemotherapy in season two changed his behaviour for good.
Is Dr. Glassman cancer-free?
In the first season of The Good Doctor, it is revealed that Glassman has some serious health concerns – and may have “the most aggressive kind of brain cancer”.
After undergoing several tests, Glassman’s brain cancer was categorized as inoperable – and fans feared Glassman wasn’t going to make it to season two of the show.
However, after taking a deeper look, doctors realized that he had a higher chance of survival than they previously thought.
And in a miraculous recovery, the neurosurgeon survived – and was branded cancer-free in the next season.
Does Dr. Glassman die in The Good Doctor?
The seventh season of The Good Doctor has been an absolute roller coaster ride for Glassman – and fans are now speculating the neurosurgeon’s fate.
His storyline kicked off when he requested to get some brain scans checked.
Although it was not revealed what the images were of, viewers have started to speculate they could be of Glassman’s.
In the previous seasons, it was shown how Glassman has always had issues with his health.
He has had a glioblastoma, scar tissue, and a lesion – but the neurosurgeon has always managed to beat the odds.
However, as the show approaches its final ending, writers may have developed a final arc for Glassman’s character – and his fate is yet to be decided.
