Kyson Clark joined Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars to share his innovative product, which showcases cutlery in a unique way. When he revealed he was bullied for 18 years, Gordon was in floods of tears.
Gordon Ramsay and Lisa Vanderpump sat down to watch Kyson Clark’s business pitch, but he broke down and ended up telling them he’d suffered with a stutter for his entire childhood, and would never speak.
Kyson’s pitch on Food Stars
Kyson turned up for his Food Stars pitch to reveal balanced cutlery, telling Lisa and Gordon it’s “not just about cutlery, as it solves a problem, too.” He wants to say goodbye to dull, lifeless and boring utensils.
With a goal to ensure every meal feels like a special occasion, Kyson, who runs his own cutlery business called Kal’s Kickin’ Collection, admitted he had attended the pitch with a script memorised.
The 31-year-old business owner said the script “wouldn’t happen” as he didn’t know how to speak as a kid and battled severe stuttering, which “prevented him from interacting with his family and friends.”
He shares emotional back story
Kyson revealed he was bullied during his childhood for 18 years, and would often stutter. However, he would not stutter while talking at the dinner table, which is why the product is “close to his heart”.
He had “become used to kids bullying him” but his family supported and helped him through it. The reason behind his cutlery is that he’s a family man, whose “big on Sunday dinners”.
Gordon was so touched by Kyson’s story, which he apologised for breaking down about, that he gave him a hug and urged him to “dry those eyes,” while Lisa told the contestant he is “tougher than he realises”.
Gordon Ramsay left in tears
“I believe more in you than I do with the product. What you haven’t had yet is the perfect mentor, and I think I can be that mentor for you. I’m going to say yes to Team Ramsay,” he told Kyson.
Both Lisa and Gordon offer Kyson a spot on their team, but he kindly takes up a spot on Team Ramsay. Gordon warned him it would “be a tough journey, but knows he can do it.”
Gordon then told cameras, “There is nothing more impressive than someone who has succeeded whilst overcoming adversity. I want individuals on my team that will not give up.”
