Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is known for his fiery personality and sharp tongue in the kitchen, but when it comes to his family, he’s all warmth and wit. In a new exclusive interview, Ramsay opened up about his 24-year-old son, Jack Ramsay, revealing that his eldest son is “desperate to grow his hair long” — all in an effort to look less like his famous father.
The MasterChef star, 58, couldn’t hold back his amusement as he discussed Jack’s latest style phase. “Jack’s desperate to grow his hair long because everyone keeps saying he looks like me,” Ramsay told People with a laugh. “He’s trying to rebel a little. I think he just wants to look more like a surfer than a chef.”
“We’re Like Twins — and He Hates It”
While Ramsay’s trademark blonde hair and piercing blue eyes have become instantly recognizable, it turns out Jack shares more than just his father’s features. “He’s got my walk, my eyebrows, and unfortunately, my temper,” Ramsay joked. “When we’re out together, people constantly mistake us for brothers — which he finds absolutely horrifying.”
Jack, a former Royal Marines officer, has largely stayed out of the culinary spotlight despite growing up in one of the most famous chef families in the world. Still, Ramsay says his son’s discipline and drive remind him of himself at that age. “He’s incredibly focused,” Ramsay said proudly. “That military background gave him something special — structure, determination, and an understanding that success doesn’t come easy.”
A Different Path from the Ramsay Kitchen
While Ramsay’s younger children, including 22-year-old Holly, 20-year-old Tilly, and teenage twins Oscar and Jesse, have flirted with the entertainment world, Jack seems content forging his own path. “He’s never been into the whole celebrity thing,” Ramsay explained. “He loves the outdoors, fitness, and being active. The kitchen chaos? That’s definitely not his thing.”
Still, Ramsay can’t resist a bit of playful teasing. “If he grows that hair any longer, I’ll have to start calling him Jack Sparrow,” he quipped. “But hey, if it helps him stop being compared to me, maybe that’s a good thing.”
Family First, Always
Despite their differences, the Ramsays remain a close-knit family. Gordon and his wife, Tana Ramsay, often share glimpses of their bustling household, from family dinners to milestone celebrations. The chef frequently credits his wife for keeping him grounded amid his hectic career.
Ramsay also spoke candidly about how fatherhood continues to shape him. “Having six kids keeps me humble,” he said. “They don’t care about Michelin stars — they just care if you’re there for them.”
And as for Jack’s quest for individuality? Ramsay couldn’t be more supportive. “Let him have his long hair,” he said. “If it makes him happy, then that’s all that matters. Besides, it’s nice to have at least one Ramsay who doesn’t look like he’s about to shout at someone.”
