The TV chef’s middle daughter, Holly, married the three-time Olympic gold medallist in December.
Gordon Ramsay has set the record straight following claims he was a “big bully” to Adam Peaty’s family in a new interview.
The beloved TV chef’s daughter married the Olympic Swimmer in a lavish ceremony in Bath Abbey in December, but Adam’s mum wasn’t invited, according to reports, due to an ongoing family fallout.
Now Gordon, 59, has directly addressed the feud, telling the Sun he had “opened my door and welcomed” Adam’s family into his own when he got together with their daughter Holly.
Prior to the wedding, the publication reported Adam’s parents had described dad-of-six Gordon as “a big bully” who had “pushed them too far.”
“I’m certainly not a bully,” Gordon said in the recent conversation. He continued: “I think when you send personal chauffeur cars up to Nottingham to invite this incredible family down to enjoy their party – by the way, Holly and Adam were hosting that party, Caroline and Mark (Adam’s parents), Tana (Gordon’s wife) and I were guests – appalling to even suggest there was any bullying. That’s absolute nonsense.
“Secondly, opening up my door, welcoming them into the family, at the end of the day there was a lot of friction going on before all that and so there was some stuff that they needed to sort it out and so it was sad to see that barrage of negativity that was self-propelled by them.
He added: “I think once you start enjoying that kind of press attention and you revel in it, you’re sort of feeding the beast.”
Gordon’s comments came just days after he told the Daily Mail the situation was “self-inflicted” by the Peatys.
“It’s all self-inflicted from their side, because we’ve done nothing – none of what you’ve read: no rudeness, no ignorance – we welcomed them,” he said, adding that he’d like to get together with Adam’s family to sort things out.
The ongoing feud
The family feud came to a head before the wedding after Adam’s aunt, Louise Williams, shared a statement on Facebook, following Holly’s hen do during which she criticised Holly’s “divisive and hurtful” decision not to invite Adam’s mum.
She wrote: “I have also seen messages passing between her and Adam about this and other matters, and, quite frankly, I expected better of you and definitely of Adam. You have inflicted a hurt on my sister that will take a very long time to heal if ever.”
Following the statement, Adam and Holly shared their own words, explaining there was an ongoing police investigation and asked for privacy as Adam’s sister Bethany, who was a bridesmaid on their wedding day, had been targeted.
“Over the past few days, a lot has been reported and comments posted about the private life of Holly and myself. My sister Bethany has also been targeted,” the three-time gold medallist wrote on Instagram.
“This has been almost entirely one-sided and, in many cases, excessive and intrusive. It has been deeply hurtful and upsetting to read, especially given the false basis upon which we have been targeted. What makes it worse is that it has been encouraged by members of my family.”
The former Strictly star added: “Bethany, Holly and myself cannot go into detail given an ongoing police investigation into serious matters that arose long before recent events. For those who know me personally, you know that I work so hard on trying to improve myself as a person who wants to contribute to making the world a better place.”
