How does the chef prepare this classic that has been the subject of debate on the internet?
Gordon Ramsay, with eight Michelin stars, and more TV shows, restaurants and pop-ups than almost anyone else in the world, has been thrust into the virtual spotlight for his technique when it comes to making different versions of eggs.
Let’s start by talking about the culinary process he follows for fried eggs. The culinary guru pours olive oil into a frying pan and fries the eggs with a touch of salt and pepper, before turning up the heat and letting them rest. Then add several slices of butter, which cooks the top of the eggs as it foams. Finally, remove the pan from the heat and plate the food.
That way of preparing it then led the online community to criticise the chef: ‘Damn, there’s so much oil in the eggs that America wants to invade them’; while another added: ‘I’ll never agree with the way Gordon cooks his eggs’. And he was criticised not only for the oil, but also for the butter: ‘It looks good with just too much butter’.
Ramsay‘s scrambled eggs had a similar effect online. In another clip, Gordon shares that his ‘secret’ to the perfect batch is to take the pan on and off the heat so they don’t overheat. He also doesn’t whisk them before cooking because ‘it gets all grainy’.
Ramsay continues the dish by adding butter, then stirring with a spatula. After 60 seconds, he removes the eggs from the heat and continues stirring before returning them to the heat. The chef also adds some crème fraîche and a number of condiments before serving. ‘All I see is a lot of not done yet,’ commented one person on TikTok. ‘How not to make scrambled eggs,’ joked another.
