In the Season 13 finale of NBC’s hit drama, Chicago Fire, the firehouse’s boss is accused of a heinous act. Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) is the prime suspect in Robert Franklin’s accident, and while it’s quite likely that he did it, Severide (Taylor Kinney) believes he is innocent. Severide’s actions in the previous episode prove that he doesn’t think Pascal tampered with Franklin’s vehicle, even when all the evidence suggests that.
However, he starts coming alive to the fact that Pascal might not be as innocent in the episode airing on Wednesday, May 21. “There’s a lot of mysteries that need to be solved and cards turned over to get this done, and I think Severide is a man on a mission to help Pascal,” showrunner Andrea Newman told TV Line of the season-ender, which finds Severide on a truth-seeking mission. She added:
“But he can’t help but have this nagging feeling that maybe he’s helping somebody who he shouldn’t be helping. Maybe he’s not going to get the answer he wants once he finally does turn over all those cards.”
Is Pascal Guilty of Franklin’s Accident in ‘Chicago Fire’ Season 13?
All the evidence points to Pascal’s involvement in the accident. He had the means, motive, and opportunity to do it. Still, Severide thinks someone is setting him up.
However, Chicago Fire has shown throughout the season that Pascal can be unpredictable, especially on issues related to his late wife Monica (KaDee Strickland). “[She] was Pascal’s Achilles’ heel,” the showrunner said. “When Bishop messed with Monica, all of a sudden, his garage was on fire. When Vale flirted with her, Pascal showed up at Vale’s door and punched him in the stomach. If anything’s going to set Pascal off, it’s anybody that does anything to Monica or talks badly of Monica,” Newman added.
As Severide puts his job on the line to help out one of their own, he will be forced to confront what he stands to lose here and “have to wonder” if Pascal really did something to Franklin for his role in Monica’s death. Meanwhile, in “It Had to End This Way,” Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) navigates Natalie’s complicated relationship with her sister, and Herrmann (David Eigenberg) prepares to take the Chief test.” The season finale will also say goodbye to two characters as Ritter (Daniel Kyri) and Carver (Jake Lockett) leave Firehouse 51.
