Patients come and go quickly through an emergency department (ideally) — and although the med students and doctors don’t turn over quite as fast on Chicago Med, it can sometimes feel that way. Season 8 of the medical drama, which was shortened due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes, felt like a revolving door of characters. Even though there were fewer episodes to see what was happening at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, the writers packed in a lot of drama and trauma. Despite that, fans are ready for a return to normalcy with Season 10.
Now that NBC has announced the premiere date for Chicago Med Season 10, we want to answer all your burning questions, such as who is returning (and who’s not), how many episodes will be in the season, and where you can watch it.

What will Chicago Med Season 10 be about?
The beginning of the season will likely be a continuation of the Season 9 finale storylines. After Dr. Marcel found out about his patient and his patient’s father dying, he stepped away from surgery. He admits to Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) that he had a daughter who died, and it’s the first step he’s taken toward dealing with his trauma — but what that means for his future at the hospital is unclear.
Dr. Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell) also has an uncertain path forward at Gaffney. After he settled his medical lawsuit with Pawel Wapniarski (Kristof Konrad), Dr. Ripley seemed to be in the clear — but Pawel showed up at the ED after being beaten by a masked man with a baseball bat. Pawel is sure the perpetrator was Dr. Ripley, and Pawel’s sister, Liliana (Alet Taylor), wants her boyfriend, Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt), to side with them.
The situation leaves Dr. Charles stuck in the middle, which could not only ruin his romantic relationship but also tear down the progress he’s made with Dr. Ripley, his colleague/former patient.
Chicago Med Season 10 cast
Heading into season 10, the NBC drama has three remaining original cast members — Barrett, Platt, and S. Epatha Merkerson — all of whom recently closed deals to extend their contracts.
On Jun. 23, Variety and other outlets confirmed that Dominic Rains would not be a series regular in Chicago Med Season 10. Rains has played Dr. Crockett Marcel since Season 5 of the NBC series. In the latest season, Dr. Marcel struggled when a childhood patient lost the opportunity to receive an organ transplant. After the child died, the child’s father committed suicide — something Dr. Marcel could understand all too well because his young daughter had died of leukemia. Although Rains will no longer be a series regular, it’s not yet been revealed if he will return as a recurring character for the season, or even for one episode to send off his character.
In early August, Deadline reported that Chicago Med cast two new doctors: Sarah Ramos (Parenthood) will play Dr. Caitlin Lenox and Darren Barnet (Never Have I Ever) will play Dr. John Frost.
