Gordon Ramsay has admitted he was “lost for words” when the couple shared the plans for their new surname the night before their wedding
Holly Ramsay and Adam Peaty revealed their plans for a new joint surname the night before they married. The bride’s famous father Gordon admitted that he was “lost for words” with the “modern” step they had taken to become Mr and Mrs Ramsay Peaty.
In a new interview with the Daily Mail, the star chef, 59, shared that it had been a surprise to him and wife Tana, 51. He said: “They told us the night before the wedding. I was lost for words. A wonderful suggestion. Very modern.”
Holly, 26, and Adam, 31, tied the knot at Bath Abbey in late December, before celebrating their nuptials with a reception at nearby Kin House in Wiltshire. Their name change was confirmed publicly when the Olympic swimmer changed his handle on Instagram.
Also present as guests at their wedding were David and Victoria Beckham, with Holly having grown up alongside their children. Their estranged son Brooklyn took a similar step with his wife Nicola after their 2022 wedding, adopting the surname ‘Peltz Beckham’.
Gordon, who was promoting his upcoming Netflix show Being Gordon Ramsay, also gave his and wife Tana’s perspective on the fallout with the Peatys which overshadowed the run-up to the wedding. None of Adam’s family were at the nuptials – with the exception of his sister Bethany, who was a bridesmaid – with the feud said to have originated over a party being filmed as part of the documentary series.
There have also been reports that the fallout with his family began with disagreements over the dress the groom’s mother wanted to wear to the wedding, which she was later disinvited from. Tensions likewise apparently worsened after Holly enjoyed a hen party at Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds and didn’t invite her future mother-in-law.
The TV star said: “It’s just upsetting. It’s all self-inflicted from their side, because we’ve done nothing – none of what you’ve read: no rudeness, no ignorance – we welcomed them.” He added that they had “treated them like royalty…to get that barrage of press was very hurtful”.
Holly and Adam met in 2021 when her sister Tilly was competing alongside him on Strictly Come Dancing, and they began dating after his 2022 split with his ex-partner Eiri Munro – who is mother to his five-year-old son George. The couple later became engaged in 2024.
Since the wedding, they have enjoyed a lengthy honeymoon to Mauritius and then Australia. During the sunny getaway, Holly has shown off a series of stunning beach looks.
