A new House of the Dragon season 2 trailer visits the Wall as Westeros descends into fiery, bloody war. Based on Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin, the Game of Thrones prequel series premiered in 2022, setting the stage for the devastating war of succession known as the Dance of the Dragons. After the House of the Dragon season 1 ending saw Aemond’s dragon Vhagar kill Lucerys, the conflict is set to heat up in season 2 as Rhaenyra is set on a warpath of revenge.
Today, Max released another official trailer for House of the Dragon season 2. Watch it below:
The trailer continues setting the stage for the Targaryen civil war to come as King Aegon II usurps Rhaenyra’s throne. The Blacks, led by Rhaenyra and Daemon, plan an invasion of King’s Landing to claim the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, the Greens, those loyal to Aegon, plan a defense. Throughout the trailer, there are many shots of the fiery, bloody war to come, along with what appears to be a visit to the Wall.
Everything Revealed By The House Of The Dragon Season 2 Trailer
After HBO released dueling House of the Dragon season 2 trailers highlighting both sides of the upcoming conflict, the Blacks and Greens, the newest trailer takes a different approach to the forthcoming season. As opposed to the dueling trailer approach, which urged audiences to choose a side, the latest trailer highlights how neither side is likely to win the upcoming war, since each side will suffer massive casualties. Knowing this, Rhaenyra and Alicent are apprehensive about waging war, though Daemon and Aegon openly embrace it.
The latest season 2 trailer also offers another look at what appears to be Jace visiting the Wall. During the season 1 finale, Rhaenyra sends her firstborn son as an envoy to Winterfell to secure House Stark as an ally for their side. This has been teased in season 2’s trailers, with Jace walking alongside the Lord of Winterfell, Cregan Stark (Tom Taylor). However, it appears they are not in Winterfell, but at the Wall. While a departure from the book, it’s not uncommon for Southerners visiting the North, similar to Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones season 1.
The timing of the trailer’s release is also conspicuous, considering it was dropped just hours after the Rings of Power season 2 trailer. The two fantasy shows premiered less than two weeks apart in 2022, and thus have had a friendly, though at times contentious rivalry. For instance, HBO released House of the Dragon episode 1 to watch for free on YouTube the same day as Rings of Power’s premiere. Now, by releasing a trailer on the same day, House of the Dragon season 2 is continuing to steal the spotlight from Rings of Power.
