House Of The Dragon’s Biggest Targaryen Mystery Can Be Solved In The Next Game Of Thrones Spinoff

House of the Dragon has introduced a significant mystery, but the new A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms can answer for it first. The latter series will be the second Game of Thrones spinoff to come from HBO and will be another prequel that revolves around a member of the Targaryen royal family. This naturally means that some of our biggest questions regarding this powerful house can be addressed.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be set between the events of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. The story is based on another set of books by author George R.R. Martin, which follow the knight Duncan and his squire, Egg. The young Egg is initially thought to be a poor orphan from King’s Landing, but he’s ultimately revealed to be a Targaryen.

The adventures of Dunk and Egg are all the more intriguing when remembering that this squire is destined to become an unlikely king of the Seven Kingdoms. His true name is Aegon V (yes, another one), and he rules about 70 years after the Dance of Dragons. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will explore this story and is sure to shed some light on this era of Targaryen rule.

A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Can Reveal Whether HOTD’s Targaryens Passed On Aegon’s Dream Before Season 3

We Will Meet Egg Before House of the Dragon Season 3’s Release

House of the Dragon introduced the idea that the Targaryen rulers had been passing on a secret through the generations. It’s revealed that Aegon the Conqueror had a dream, which he called A Song of Ice and Fire. In this dream, Aegon saw what we as the audience know to be the attack of the White Walkers and the second Long Night.

A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms: 5 Dunk & Egg Facts You Need To Know

Aegon the Conqueror believed that a Targaryen ruler could unite the realm against the threat to come. It became a family secret, and each ruler passed on the knowledge of what Aegon saw to their heir. However, we know that this knowledge gets lost somewhere between the events of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. No one told Daenerys about A Song of Ice and Fire until much later.

We don’t know precisely when the knowledge of Aegon’s dream was lost, but A Knight of the Seven Kings could provide an answer. Egg isn’t initially meant to be the Targaryen heir, but through circumstances, he ended up on the Iron Throne anyway. Perhaps this is when A Song of Ice and Fire stopped being passed on. Or, it could be revealed that the knowledge was lost long before.

A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Already Has A Great Way To Expand On Aegon’s Dream

Whether Egg learned of Aegon the Conqueror’s dream from his predecessor or not, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is sure to make mention of it anyway. It’s already been revealed that this boy is a Dragon Dreamer, just like his conquering ancestor. Egg could end up having a dream about the Song of Ice and Fire himself.

If Egg already happens to know about the threat of the Long Night, his own dreams could potentially expand on what audiences already know about the prophecy. Just like House of the Dragon, this could retroactively alter our understanding of the events of Game of Thrones—a highly exciting prospect. Of course, only time will tell.
