How A Steve Urkel Cameo Supports Full House’s Wildest Fan Theory

The Full House and Family Matters crossover episode featuring Steve Urkel being introduced to the Tanner family pours fuel on the fire of an unbelievable fan theory. The nerdy Steve Urkel, portrayed by Jaleel White, only appears in the Full House season 4 episode “Stephanie Gets Framed.” However, Urkel’s cameo is memorable and possibly changes the landscape of the Full House story.

Full House somehow invokes wild theories surrounding the Tanners, such as a theory that Michelle Tanner is dead. Of course, the most unbelievable theories have little support or no merit. However, Steve Urkel’s cameo fully supports the wildest Full House theory as proof that Full House and Family Matters exist in the same universe.

Time Travel Exists In The Full House Universe Because Of Steve Urkel

Steve Urkel appears in Full House season 4 for a crossover episode with Family Matters, supporting a wild theory that time travel exists in the Full House universe. In the Family Matters season 8 episode “Father Time,” Urkel creates a time machine to travel back in time to when Carl first bought their house, and Carl ends up changing the future. Urkel appears in Full House as the cousin to DJ’s friend and encourages Stephanie to wear her new glasses. Since both shows take place in the same universe, time travel also exists in Full House.

Family Matters' Urkel in Full House
Full House is no stranger to wild theories, including that the Tanners are stuck in purgatory. However, Urkel’s guest appearance is solid proof of the time travel theory. Urkel is an inventor who also invented a transformation chamber to turn into his alter ego, Stefan. However, Urkel’s time machine is his invention with the biggest implications. Changing the past allows Carl to change the future in drastic ways. This technology used within Full House would have similar consequences and explain multiple continuity errors.

Steve Urkel Could Have Introduced The Tanners To Time Travel

If Urkel introduces the Tanner family to time travel during his visit, it will explain changes within Full House. Cousin Steve, portrayed by Kirk Cameron, visits the Tanners in Full House season 1. Considering Danny is later revealed to have one childless sister and Pamela’s only sibling is Uncle Jesse, Steve has no relation to the Tanners, something that could easily be explained by a time machine altering the past and erasing him from history.

Additionally, Uncle Jesse’s name changes from Jesse Cochran in Full House season 1 to Jesse Katsopolis. While this can be explained as John Stamos’ wanting to showcase his Greek heritage, the time travel theory makes more sense. Changing Uncle Jesse’s heritage to Greek decreases the likelihood that Danny and Pamela would have three blonde children. Pamela was previously shown as blonde, so DJ, Stephanie, and Michelle likely got the trait from their mother. Steve Urkel bringing time travel to Full House easily explains continuity errors within the Tanner family.
