Lea collapsed at the end of episode 15 Waiting and the latest installation Dr Ted started the day after it happened.

Originally, her obstetrician said the scare was most likely down to round ligament pain which is common during pregnancy.
Shaun didn’t believe this was the case and instead created a list of everything that could negatively affect their unborn child.

Later on, Lea received a diagnosis that devastated herself and Shaun.
Lea had Type II Vasa Previa which she needed to go into surgery in order to prevent a potential rupture that would kill their baby.

She was operated on by Claire Brown (Antonia Thomas), Audrey Lim (Christina Chang) and Jordan Allen (Bria Henderson) and while the surgery itself went well, Lea went on to develop a pulmonary embolism.

This means an additional procedure was needed to break up the clot and save the baby.

Unfortunately, their baby’s heart rate had slowed significantly down and her lungs were not responding to steroids.
