Jenny Han Recently Gave A Disappointing Update On The Summer I Turned Pretty Movie
Given the Christmas montage as the credits rolled on The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3, many fans were hopeful that Belly and Conrad would be back by the end of the year. However, those hopes were quickly dashed, with a new Jenny Han update further showing how that would be impossible. At The Wrap‘s 2025 Power Women Summit (via Cosmopolitan), Han commented on the film’s status.
On December 2, the author of The Summer I Turned Pretty, who was also a co-showrunner of the Prime Video series and is both a writer and the director of the upcoming movie, said, “I just wrote it. We have not filmed anything yet.” She also addressed the fans’ hopes that the film would be released this Christmas, saying, “Unfortunately, not happening, not possible.”
While it would have been exciting to get the whole final story of The Summer I Turned Pretty all in the same year, the movie not being released in 2025 is completely understandable. As Han explained, post-production of season 3 was finished in June, with the show’s first episodes premiering in July. As such, there was not enough time to shoot the movie.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Movie Could Get A Christmas 2026 Release
The Summer I Turned Pretty movie will not be released this Christmas, but the project could very well be ready in time for the holidays a year from now, keeping in line with the heartwarming Bonrad moments seen in the finale. After all, Jenny Han did confirm that she had finished writing the script for the movie.
Belly’s story might be ending with the upcoming movie, but Prime Video already has the perfect The Summer I Turned Pretty replacement in production.
As such, with the script ready, if the actors’ schedules line up for an early to mid-2025 shoot, then The Summer I Turned Pretty movie could be ready for release by Christmas 2026. Fans are excited to see key moments of Belly’s life, such as her and Conrad’s wedding or them having children, and the earlier we get The Summer I Turned Pretty movie, the better.
