How Tracker Season 2’s Returning Character Billie Will Have Different Dynamic With Colter Explained By Stars

Billie Matalon (Sofia Pernas) will return to Tracker season 2, episode 3, following her last appearance in season 1, episode 6, where she works with the show’s titular rewardist, Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley), sharing a case to track down a racehorse. Episode 6 revealed that Billie is Colter’s former love interest, who once betrayed him on a joint mission to keep the reward money for herself. Though skeptical, the two work together on the racehorse case, which doesn’t end in a double cross.

In the upcoming episode, Billie comes to Colter to help to track down a missing high school athlete. Pernas tells TV Line that the “icebreaker moment” where they were on the phone in episode 6 “allowed a certain comfort” for Billie to open herself up to ask Colter for help. The star also reveals that the episode will “peek into her backstory,” where viewers will learn a lot about Billie’s childhood and her mother, gaining insight into “why she is who she is.” Check out what she said:

We get a little peek into her backstory. I feel like we broke bread in 106, and she’s comfortable in 203. That icebreaker moment [on the phone in Season 1, Episode 6] allowed a certain comfort for her to be able to be like, ‘I need some help,’ and she asks him for help in the third episode. You get why she is who she is, in so many ways, and it comes from her mother. In my mind, she has buried this down so deep, and she proceeds through life with this wall that she builds. I don’t think this is something that she just tells somebody over coffee, so I wanted it to be that much more.

Harley shares that when Billie comes forward, Colter would at first be “skeptical,” given that she once betrayed him, but in this episode, Billie “really does open up” to Colter in a way that she hasn’t before. The actor reveals that Billie’s backstory is “very sad,” but it’s also “a story of triumph and perseverance.” Check out his comment below:

They have a nice scene where she really does open up to him in a way that you…. [he addresses to Pernas] The way that you played it was beautiful. Your performance suggests that you’ve never shared [this information] with anyone, ever.

What Their Comments Mean For Billie & Colter
Their Relationship Progresses

Since Tracker season 1, episode 6, introduces Billie, a female rewardist and old flame, viewers have been asking questions about their relationship. The news from the two stars confirms that Billie will return as part of the Tracker season 2 cast. Harley’s comments also suggest that even though the two worked together in episode 6, Colter can’t fully trust Billie yet, or can he welcome her back entirely into his life. With the new episode giving Billie a backstory, viewers will likely see a forward movement in their relationship and the deepening of their bond.

Harley’s comment about Billie trusting Colter with something she has never told anyone also reveals that Billie likely sees Colter as the only person she can talk to and turn to for help. This also adds some insight into Billie and Colter’s romance being special. Giving Billie a backstory is also a positive sign that the character might have more screen time in the future.

Our Take On Billie & Colter
Billie & Colter Are A Good Fit

Tracker season 2 has added even more love interests for Colter, but none of them sticks around for long. Billie is different from all of Colter’s other love interests because she’s a reward seeker like Colter. Season 1, episode 6 sees them working together on a case. While viewers expected rivalries and competition, it was nothing like that. Instead, they complemented each other and worked well together.

With Billie opening up more about herself to Colter and allowing herself to become vulnerable in Tracker season 2, episode 3, there’s the possibility that Billie might be Colter’s first significant love interest on-screen. Their relationship has given fans a lot to root for since Tracker season 1. Billie brings out a softer side to Colter. On top of that, they share a very special understanding of being in the same field. Billie is a very strong candidate as a major love.
