If you’ve been missing Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med, your wait has coming to an end. NBC has unveiled its midseason schedule, featuring the Season premiere of your #OneChicago favorites on January 17, 2024.
“Building off the momentum of a strong fall, we’re entering midseason with a powerhouse schedule that leans into the strength of both beloved titles and new shows while also growing our audience across NBC and Peacock,” Frances Berwick, chairman of NBCUniversal Entertainment, said in a press release.
“This season brings fresh takes on favorites, including the first double-chair on The Voice and the much-anticipated return of #OneChicago and the Law & Order franchise – all of which continue to establish NBC as a destination for our loyal fans,” Berwick continued.
Let’s take a look at where each show left off:
Chicago Fire
The Season 11 finale of Chicago Fire left fans in suspense. Several characters’ futures were left up in the air, and viewers were left pondering the following key developments:
- Mouch’s Perilous Situation: The finale put firefighter Mouch (Christian Stolte) a precarious, life-or-death cliffhanger. The unexpected turn of events has added an extra layer of tension for fans. The uncertainty surrounding Mouch’s fate has left viewers anxious for the next season.
- Brett and Casey’s Relationship: Paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and Lieutenant Matt Casey’s (Jesse Spencer) relationship took a significant turn in the finale, hinting at a possible happy ending for the couple. However, this leaves fans questioning what this means for Brett’s future in Chicago. With the recent mews of Kara Killmer’s upcoming departure from the series, it appears that Brett’s personal life may impact her professional life at Firehouse 51.
- Stella’s Mission: Another major storyline involves Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), who is determined to bring her husband Kelley Severide (Taylor Kinney) back to Chicago. This mission adds an emotional dimension to the finale, and fans are curious to see how it will unfold in the upcoming season.
We do know that Kelly Severide will return this season. As the characters of Firehouse 51 face personal and professional challenges, fans are eagerly awaiting the next season to find out the resolutions to these gripping storylines.
Chicago P.D.
The Season 10 finale of Chicago P.D. delivered intense and dramatic moments as Intelligence closed in on white supremacist Richard Beck (Lee Tergesen). The volatile episode featured significant developments, including a major shift in the case, a large-scale operation, and a shocking cliffhanger.
Detective Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), who had been undercover with the white supremacist group, struggled with the toll the case took on him. Confiding in Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and connecting with his daughter Makayla (Ramona Edith Williams) were the only sources of solace for him. The situation escalated when Samantha Beck (Nicole Ari Parker), a member of the group, threatened to leave town with her son Callum (Graham Harvey). Ruzek’s cover was blown when he intervened, leading to a turning point in the case.
With the help of ASA Nina Chapman (Sara Bues), Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) secured a deal for full immunity for Samantha and Cal in exchange for her cooperation. The team prepared for a large-scale operation that spanned multiple locations. However, the raid fell short as Richard Beck was nowhere to be found. Despite this, Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) discovered stacks of C4, moments before a building exploded, ensuring everyone’s safety.
Unfortunately, Ruzek was shot in the abdomen by Cal during the chaos. Samantha fled with her son, leaving Ruzek profusely bleeding and calling for help. In the ambulance, Ruzek made Burgess promise to find Samantha and Cal. At the hospital, Burgess anxiously awaited updates on Ruzek’s condition, finding solace in Platt’s comforting words.
The episode took a tense turn as Burgess apprehended Samantha, who pleaded with her to say she shot Ruzek instead of Callum. Richard then entered the scene, taking Callum hostage. The situation escalated further, leading to Atwater killing Richard, leaving Callum unharmed but filled with chilling hatred.
The finale concluded with a visibly shaken Voight sharing a drink with Chapman, leaving Ruzek’s fate uncertain. The episode ended on a suspenseful note, setting the stage for this next season of Chicago P.D.
Chicago Med
The Season 8 finale of Chicago Med delivered intense and pivotal moments, featuring a risky surgery, ethical dilemmas, and a surprising departure that will reshape the dynamics at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.
The episode centers around Dr. Marcel’s (Dominic Rains) concerns about the new OR platform, 2.0, and its potential risks. Despite his reservations, Dr. Dayton, (Sasha Roiz) the hospital’s new owner, insists on using the system for his hernia repair surgery. Dr. Marcel reluctantly agrees but decides to proceed without the assistance of 2.0. The surgery becomes a tense moment as Marcel navigates the procedure without the controversial system.
Meanwhile, Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) discovers flaws in 2.0 that could compromise patient care. Faced with the ethical dilemma of exposing the system’s risks, Will resigns from his position, choosing to prioritize patient safety over loyalty to the hospital. Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson), the hospital’s chief administrator, accepts Will’s resignation, acknowledging the challenges he will face outside the hospital.
In a surprising turn of events, Dr. Dayton announced the hospital’s sale due to the setback with 2.0 and the failed IPO. The staff at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center faces an uncertain future as the hospital transitions under new ownership.
The episode concludes with Will Halstead leaving the hospital, saying a heartfelt goodbye to his colleagues. However, the story takes an unexpected turn as Will arrives in Seattle and reunites with his former colleague and romantic interest, Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto), suggesting a new chapter for the characters beyond Chicago Med.
