All good things must come to an end, and I fear the gripping love triangle drama, The Summer I Turned Pretty, is no exception. The series finale airs September 17, after three seasons of Belly bouncing between Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher. Am I a grown woman planning on attending a watch party? Absolutely.
With so much time in between new episodes (a week really does feel like a year), the fans have been busy dreaming up finale theories and sharing them on TikTok. There’s speculation about who Belly will end up with, potential new romances, and even possible deaths. Yeah, TSITP corner of TikTok is kind of a scary place right now.
So, how will The Summer I Turned Pretty end? Let’s break down the most popular fan theories and predictions. Some of them are quite rational and others are… borderline unhinged.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Ending Theories: Deaths, Relationships
Does Conrad Die?

Many fans believe Conrad’s terminally ill. Their evidence? Throughout the season, Conrad grabs his chest a lot, and at one point, he mentions that heart disease runs in his family. There’s also a scene where Conrad complains about his hands hurting (a potential sign of an illness). While these moments could be easter eggs, I would be pretty shocked if show creator Jenny Han killed off Conrad!
And spoiler alert: He does not die in the books.
Does Belly’s Dad, John, Have A Heart Attack And Die?
Apparently, Conrad dying isn’t the only death theory: Fans of the show also think Belly’s dad, John, is toast. In season 3 episode 10, there’s a scene where John rubs his chest and complains about heartburn. Laurel helps him find Pepcid. Usually, scenes like these are foreshadowing a more serious health crisis, so this is a believable theory. (Otherwise, why include that scene?)
“Belly’s dad is going to have a heart attack in the final episode and belly will turn to Conrad as she knows he’s been studying this,” a fan on TikTok predicted. “This is what will bring her back home for them to reunite properly for good.” Oof… dark, but possible.
What’s The Significance of The Number 14?
Does Jenny Han like 14 as much as Taylor Swift likes 13? The number comes up on Belly’s sweatshirt in a Christmas flashback, there’s a $14 sign in TJ Max, Susannah died on April 14, and FBI-level fans noticed that the digits of Conrad’s flight fare difference, $473, add up to 14. Lots of hopeful fans think this means we’re getting 14 episodes (that’s what Susannah would’ve wanted, for sure!), but IDK about that.
Will Denise And Jeremiah End Up Together?
Sigh. I do have a sinister feeling that Denise and Jeremiah will end up together. First of all, she’s letting him stay at her place indefinitely. Second of all, they get super flirty in episode 10. After they have a heart to heart about breakups, Denise insists on Jeremiah coming to her family’s Thanksgiving. “My grandma will love you,” she says. “You’re nice and pretty and you can cook.” Of course, all Jeremiah hears is: “You think I’m pretty?” I feel like this came out of nowhere, but then again, Jeremiah’s newly single.
#PrayforDenise.
Does Belly End Up With Conrad Or Benito?

The major question, of course, is who TF does Belly end up with? It seems like Jeremiah’s definitely off the table, and we all expected her to end up with Conrad. But in the second-to-last episode of the series, there’s a gorgeous new boy in the picture: Benito. He’s not annoying, toxic, avoidant, or siblings with anyone else she’s slept with. Low-key, I think I identify as #TeamBenito now?
Spoiler alert: In the books, Belly does end up marrying Conrad. But Jenny teased that the show ending is different from the book ending, so as Ellie Goulding once said, “Anything can happen.” We’ll just have to wait and see.
