This year marks the 74th anniversary of I Love Lucy, which first aired on October 15, 1951. As one of the most iconic sitcoms in television history, the series continues to hold a special place in the hearts of millions thanks to the on-screen chemistry of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, its witty humor, and its portrayal of mid-century American family life.
📣 Fan Campaign: “Bring Lucy to Life in Color!”
To commemorate the occasion, thousands of fans across social media have united under the hashtag #ColorILoveLucy, urging CBS to release a fully colorized box set of the complete series. While a few special episodes—such as The Christmas Episode and Lucy Goes to Scotland—have been remastered in color for broadcast events, a full-color collection has never been officially released.
One fan posted:
“Gen Z is discovering I Love Lucy through TikTok clips. A color version would be the perfect way to introduce this classic to new generations.”
A petition on Change.org launched by fans already has over 60,000 signatures, reflecting widespread interest and nostalgia.
🎥 CBS Response?
Though CBS has not made an official statement, industry insiders suggest that it is technically feasible to restore and colorize the entire 180-episode run. One studio rep stated:
“It’s possible, but it requires serious investment, time, and licensing coordination.”
If greenlit, the project would not only be a love letter to long-time viewers but a way to breathe new life into the legacy of Lucille Ball for a modern audience.
