Although Ghosts season 4 promises a huge show-shaking twist, this is a rare time when I hope that the sitcom’s tease turns out to be a misleading fake out. CBS’ Ghosts follows Sam and Jay, a young couple who inherit a rundown mansion and convert it into a hotel. After Sam suffers a near-death experience, she gains the ability to hear, see, and communicate with the mansion’s ghostly inhabitants. The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts are a hilariously mismatched bunch, from a sardonic Native American to a hulking, surprisingly laid back Viking, to a drama-addicted Revolutionary War veteran, to a free-spirited hippy.
Ghosts is based on the British series of the same name that started in 2019. While Ghosts season 4 promises more laughs from its large ensemble of characters, there will be a few changes to the show’s formula. For one thing, season 3’s shadowy villain Patience will become a much bigger presence in the show’s next outing. Fortunately, Ghosts season 4’s Patience casting proves that the series has a plan to humanize this character and make her more than a one-dimensional boogeyman. Meanwhile, Sam’s father, played by Dean Norris, will also finally appear in season 4.
