‘I thought you were going to say you’re gay’: John Goodman reunites with Sara Gilbert for hilarious Roseanne throwback sketch 20 years after finale

It’s been two decades since the Conner family graced the small screen.

But that period of absence came to an end on Friday, when John Goodman joined Sara Gilbert on her show The Talk, and took part in a quick spoof of Roseanne.

Goodman, 64, appeared in one of the his classic flannel shirts from the show, while Gilbert, 42, also rocked a flannel for the quick clip.

Of course Goodman originally played the father, Dan, while Gilbert played his rebellious daughter Darlene.

Gilbert begins the clip, saying ‘there’s something I’ve been wanting to talk to you about for a while now, I don’t know how to say this,’ before pausing for the punchline ‘I’m a talk-show host.’

What a dad: Goodman then replies: ‘Well, as long as you’re happy, me and your mom will support you’

He then waits a moment for his own punchline: ‘you know, for a minute there, I thought you were going to tell me you were gay.’

This elicited major cheers from the audience, as in real life Gilbert did in fact realize she was gay in her late teens, as she was dating John Galecki from the mega hit The Big Bang Theory.

After the massive round of applause, Gilbert had one more line: ‘Let’s save something for halftime.’

While it was a fun throwback, viewers will remember that Goodman’s character was actually revealed to have died during the final season of the show as a way to explain the actor’s absence.

Roseanne ran for an impressive nine seasons before calling it quits in 1997.
