The end of Station 19 could have led to Maya joining Grey’s Anatomy, but I’m thrilled that didn’t happen. Danielle Savre’s new role in Found offers her a fresh opportunity to showcase her talent in a way that returning to Grey’s Anatomy wouldn’t have.
Maya Bishop’s character was a central figure in Station 19, deeply woven into its narratives through her ambitions and LGBTQ+ identity. While her marriage to Carina DeLuca could have created a pathway back to Grey’s Anatomy, it would have been challenging to integrate her fully into the already crowded ensemble of the medical drama. The show has always struggled with balancing its large cast, often sidelining characters’ storylines in favor of others.
In contrast, Savre’s addition to Found presents a chance for her character to interact broadly within the story. Creator Nkechi Okoro Carroll has indicated that Savre will bring a “beautiful, fun energy” to the show, and her character’s ambiguous nature could lead to intriguing dynamics—possibly even double-crosses. This complexity could provide Savre with a more significant and varied role than Maya might have had in Grey’s Anatomy.
Given that Found will allow Savre to explore a multifaceted character and engage with the entire cast, her departure from the firefighter series seems like a fortuitous turn. With the narrative space to develop her character further, it’s likely we’ll see Savre shine in ways that may have been impossible in the Grey’s Anatomy universe.
Ultimately, the decision for Maya to remain in Station 19 and for Savre to embrace a new role aligns perfectly with the potential for character growth and storytelling depth in Found, rather than being just another face in a sprawling ensemble cast.
