BLUE BLOODS might be over, but we’re not saying good-bye to the Reagans for good. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming spin-off, BOSTON BLUE.
“In the new series, from writers Brandon Sonnier & Brandon Margolis (S.W.A.T.), Wahlberg will reprise his role as NYPD Detective Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD,” a description provided to Deadline explained. “Once in Boston, he is paired with Detective Lena [Silver], the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.”
Lena will be played by Sonequa Martin-Green, while GHOSTBUSTERS star Ernie Hudson is set to play her father, Reverend Peters. PSYCH actress Maggie Lawson was also recently confirmed to play Sarah Silver, Lena’s stepsister and a Superintendent in the Boston Police Department.
The show was given a straight-to-series order from CBS for the 2025-26 broadcast season, so fans can expect to see it on the network’s fall line-up.
At a recent press event, Wahlberg gave fans some hints about what they can expect from BOSTON BLUE.
“Danny does not like Boston very much, as we’ll discover,” the actor joked. “He’s a New Yorker, he’s a Mets fan and a Jets fan.”

He also reassured fans that the Reagan family will be part of BOSTON BLUE. saying, “Danny’s story will continue the Reagan family’s. You can’t have Danny without Reagans.”
“There’ll be connective tissue to the old family,” Wahlberg continued. “But we’re also going to get to discover a new family and carry on the tradition of telling their stories and still telling the Reagan stories.”
He concluded, “No BLUE BLOODS fans will be disappointed…We are really working on this universe in a way that I think the BLUE BLOODS viewers are going to be very happy.”
Deadline reported the show wasn’t originally intended as a BLUE BLOODS off-shoot. However, after a few failed pitches — one of which would’ve seen Danny move to Texas — the original premise was revamped with Wahlberg’s character in mind.
It’s no surprise CBS announced a spin-off. Since the end of BLUE BLOODS, studio execs have been teasing the possibility of a new show with our familiar favorites.
In a 2024 shareholder meeting, Paramount Global co-CEO Brian Robbins told attendees, “We are building tomorrow’s billion dollar brands right now. In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for DEXTER, BILLIONS and BLUE BLOODS.”
BLUE BLOODS fans are happy that they haven’t seen the last of their favorite characters — and can’t wait to see what new adventures BOSTON BLUE will bring.
