“It Changed Everything”: Bridgerton’s New Leading Lady Shares the Secret Behind Her Role

Connecting with a character that, for example, lives in another time period, can be quite the undertaking for an actor. When it comes to Bridgerton’s Yerin Ha, the actress shared which two pieces of her character, Sophie Baek, allowed her to slip into character for the upcoming fourth season of the Regency-era Netflix drama. In an interview with Glamour, Ha revealed that it’s “Sophie’s apron and headpiece immediately put me in her mind space.” She says, “just having the weight of that on my head helps me get into her character.” The upcoming season of Bridgerton will adapt the third book in the Julia Quinn book series: An Offer From a Gentleman. Ha is Season 4’s leading lady, opposite Luke Thompson returning as Benedict Bridgerton.

Sophie Baek Will Shake Up the Ton in ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4

Bridgerton Season 4 will take on a Cinderella-esque tale, with Benedict meeting Sophie at a masquerade ball thrown by Viscountess Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell). Should it be adapted as faithfully as previously promised, the pair will spend time apart after their magical meet-cute, before Sophia is ultimately rescued from a dangerous situation by Benedict. The theme of class differences is most apparent in this Bridgerton pairing, with Sophia being the illegitimate child of an Earl, forced to instead be a servant in the household and Benedict being the second son of a Viscount. Last year, Ha told RUSSH that Sophie “is always reminded of her place and doesn’t dream of more than her station as a maid. However, she is human after all, and craves that human-to-human love and connection. And it’s not until she meets Benedict that she slowly lets her guard down, bit by bit, and starts to create space to let love flow in for her.”

In the time since her casting announcement, Ha has also ascribed her leading man akin to a different, but more era appropriate hero rather than the Prince Charming of the Cinderella tale. She told TV Insider last year, that while filming “I literally said to Luke, ‘You’re giving Mr. Darcy vibes 100 percent.’ So, I guess Pride and Prejudice for me. I don’t think the showrunners are thinking that, but for me, I’m thinking Pride and Prejudice.” She and Thompson have also both shared their favorite moments of Season 4. During the Season of Love event in February, “I have to say…” Thompson says, “without going into too much detail, My Cottage was pretty… cause there’s a whole… I guess we spend a lot of time there.” Ha chimes in, agreeing, “You were there a long time.” Thompson says it wasn’t just the pretty location that made him pick My Cottage. “It was also the first time that really we got to act together, you know, so that was really special.” And for those that have read An Offer From a Gentleman, My Cottage is one of the most highly anticipated new locations for Season 4. You can watch all three seasons of Bridgerton now on Netflix. Season 4 is expected to release in 2026. Stay with Collider for the latest updates.
