‘It Was Over for Me’: David Boreanaz Reveals Why SEAL Team Had to End

SEAL Team is currently in the middle of airing its seventh and final season on Paramount+. While some fans would have liked to have seen the military drama series continuing with an eighth season, lead star David Boreanaz recently explained why now was the perfect time to end SEAL Team.

In an interview with Collider to promote the final season of SEAL Team, Boreanaz opened up about his decision to end the show after its seventh season, explaining that he “decided to end the show the way I wanted to end the show with the character. It was over for me. I knew that, and that’s what I expressed to them. I was like, ‘I’m done, both physically and mentally.'” The actor shared that it is “very difficult to portray these types of emotions, day in day out, when you’re out.” shooting them.”

Boreanaz continued to talk about how difficult it is to portray Master Chief Special Warfare Operator Jason Hayes in SEAL Team, noting that “from my perspective, as an actor playing these emotions, I can only imagine how they are for those that are actually living it. The help that is there, is there, but it takes time. There’s a process to it. There’s a grieving to it. Ultimately, I don’t think it ever really goes, but you can have an understanding of how to manage that through consistency and discipline.”

He explained that these emotions and the traumatic process are “what we want to show in these stories for this season. I know, for a fact, that happens. From my character’s perspective, does he make it? I don’t know. He may not make it. He may succumb to the battlefield. He may ultimately die on the field of the sword. That’s on the plate for him.”

What Is SEAL Team About?
Created by Benjamin Cavell, SEAL Team originally aired on CBS for its first four-and-a-half seasons, before moving to Paramount+ midway through its fifth season. The series follows the professional and personal lives of Bravo Team, the most elite unit of Navy SEALs as they train, plan, and execute the most dangerous, high-stakes missions our country can ask of them. Deployed on clandestine missions worldwide at a moment’s notice, and knowing the toll it takes on them and their families, this tight-knit SEAL team displays unwavering patriotism and fearless dedication even in the face of overwhelming odds. In addition to Boreanaz, SEAL Team stars Neil Brown Jr., A. J. Buckley, Toni Trucks, Beau Knapp, Jessica Paré, Judd Lormand, and Dylan Walsh.

David Boreanaz Is Ready for a Bones Revival
With SEAL Team coming to an end, Boreanaz will be on the hunt for his next acting project. The actor recently expressed interest in revisiting his Bones character, FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth, stating, “That’s something I will never decline to take on because it will be fun to see where Booth is and where Temperance Brennan is, and those other characters, especially their relationship and how it’s evolved over the years.” He continued, “That type of show and how we shot that show is just so unique to the humor that you really could do anything with it.”

Almost a month after Boreanaz made those revival comments, his Bones co-star, Emily Deschanel (Dr. Temperance Brennan), revealed that she was surprised by his comments as he had “always said he’s not open” to a Bones revival. The actor continued that she would be open to returning alongside Boreanaz for a Bones continuation, noted, “I never say never.”
