Drescher has now said in an interview on The View that The Nanny musical will be arriving soon to Broadway. She expressed excitement at theaters reopening in September, indicating she and her team will be “almost ready to launch The Nanny musical” at that time. Drescher’s full update can be read below:
It’s been very sad to see New York without the theater community, which is really such a pulse for the city, and I’m very, very thrilled we’re coming out the other side and that theater is going to come back and we’ll be almost ready to launch The Nanny musical on Broadway as well.
While it is unlikely the musical will premiere immediately when Broadway reopens, it’s now possible it will grace the stage sometime during the season. The Nanny still has a devoted fan base after over two decades of being off the air, and its popularity continues to grow with all episodes now available to stream on HBO Max. No additional information has been provided by Drescher, but the musical will no doubt feature many of the core elements that shaped the series, and it will only be a matter of time before audiences get to revisit the characters from The Nanny.
