Jack Collapsing In Station 19 Season 6’s Finale Wasn’t The First Time

Jack’s shocking collapse at the end of Station 19 season 6’s finale took everyone by surprise because he spent the night relatively safe when many were put at risk by the dancefloor collapsing, but that wasn’t the only time a concussion caused Jack to lose consciousness. Station 19 season 6 was eventful from day 1 for Jack, who abandoned the team after learning his biological family’s true story and meeting part of it at the end of Station 19 season 5. However, while Station 19 season 6 showed Jack trying to tentatively build connections with Brooke, he also leaned into his firehouse family, despite repeatedly trying not to worry them.

Throughout Station 19, Jack always tended to put the others’ safety over his, even risking dying in an explosion to protect the team in Station 19 season 2. Station 19 season 6 offering Jack the chance to return to his firehouse made him grateful because they welcomed him back and helped him get back on his feet after he spent his summer holed up with Rigo’s widow, subjected to her unfavorable comments. Still, Jack’s tendency to put his well-being last was only emphasized by his gratitude toward the team, leading him to ignore multiple injuries that eventually got to him because he wanted to take care of others first.

Jack Collapsed After Hitting Is Head On The Stove In Season 6, Episode 14

Station 19 season 6, episode 14 had the team focused on organizing a dinner to celebrate Theo as captain, making Jack’s fall and forgetfulness particularly embarrassing, especially as the pot he forgot on the stove eventually caused a small fire. While part of the reason Jack hid the fall and concussion was that he felt guilty for having started the fire that riled up Theo, his go-to reaction was always to tone down his discomfort, even if he didn’t feel well. Indeed, Jack was repeating himself and feeling terrible in Station 19 season 6, episode 14, but only Vic and Andy’s pressure eventually brought him to reveal the whole story.

The Station 19 Team Needs To Stop Listening To Jack When He Says He’s Fine

Jack’s whole story in Station 19 season 6 highlighted his problems with receiving help. Even when he was living out of his car parked outside the firehouse, Jack struggled to accept Andy and Ben’s aid, despite knowing his firehouse family worried about him since they learned he had secretly returned to Seattle. While being able to see Pru eventually got him to advocate for himself with Chief Ross to get his old job back, Station 19 season 6 showed a proven record of Jack’s tendency to play down his feelings and illnesses.

The Station 19 team always united as a family when one of them struggled. Jack’s reluctance to ask for help was repeatedly established in Station 19 season 6, so the team should stop believing him at face value, especially when they see Jack being injured and know he always minimizes his needs. While albeit entirely different situations, the team stepped up during Maya’s mental health crisis, and they should do the same by recognizing Jack’s tendency to overlook his needs in order to care for others. Besides clarifying his health status, Station 19 season 7 can hopefully continue Jack’s story and finally have the team give him the support he needs.
