On General Hospital, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) had a short but impactful romantic entanglement back in 2021 — one that was cut short first by Jason’s sense of obligation toward Carly, then by his-and-hers presumed deaths. But now that both have returned to the land of the living, GH is poised to give the duo their fans dubbed “JaBritt” a second chance at love. Need a refresher on how they got together — and how they were torn apart — in the first place? We’ve got you covered!
Born To Run
In March of 2021, Franco Baldwin was murdered in cold blood by the ruthless Peter August, who framed Jason for the dastardly deed. Jason was arrested and tossed in prison. While he was in police custody, Cyrus Renault orchestrated a hit on Jason.
Rightly worried about her BFF’s safety, Carly Corinthos persuaded her old friend, Pentonville inmate Shawn Butler, to stab Jason — not fatally, but badly enough that he would require medical attention at General Hospital. Carly’s plan was to break Jason free of his armed guards at the hospital before Cyrus could eliminate him.
When Jason arrived at G.H., Britt — Peter’s biological half sister — was there — and she, too, was in grave danger from Cyrus and his attempts to consolidate power across Port Charles. Cyrus had installed himself as the chairman of the board at General Hospital, and Britt (who was the chief of staff at the hospital at the time) had begun pushing back against his various demands.
Britt went to see Jason in his hospital room after he got stitched up and by the end of their visit (under Carly’s watchful eye), Britt had revealed her suspicions about Cyrus’s nefarious activities. Jason implored her to get dirt on Renault that he could use against him. But Cyrus caught on to her investigation into a dangerous pharmaceutical he was distributing and decided to have her murdered, as well.
Believing in Jason’s innocence and badly wanting to see Peter brought to justice, Britt signed on to help facilitate Jason’s escape. While on the verge of making his escape in a car driven by Brick, Jason learned that Cyrus had ordered one of his goons to kill Britt. He put his own freedom on the line by doubling back to save Britt, fending off her would-be assassins. Jason and Britt fled to the garage, with Cyrus’s men following them, and made it into the getaway car — but Jason was shot in the chaos.
Britt, Jason and Brick made it to a safehouse, where Carly soon joined them, and despite the less-than-ideal conditions, Britt performed life-saving surgery on Jason. When the police (led by Dante) burst into the safehouse, though, it was empty — Britt and Jason had taken off!
The duo crossed into Canada and took refuge in a lighthouse. As she continued to provide Jason with medical care, Britt was dealing with health-related concerns of her own: She feared she had inherited the genetic marker for Huntington’s disease from her father, the late super-villain Cesar Faison. Britt took Jason into her confidence, and ultimately, she decided to get tested. He accompanied her to a local clinic for testing and she received confirmation that she did, indeed, carry the marker. In a raw and vulnerable conversation, Britt opened up to Jason about how frightened she was about what this meant for her future. This led to a kiss — and then to lovemaking.
