Jealousy, Babies & Breakups: Tate’s Wild Ride on Days of Our Lives

Leo Howard took a dive into all the troubles that Tate has been going through, and what he would like to see happen with him and Holly.

Tate and Sophia are really in a quandary on Days of Our Lives. After a one-night dalliance, she got pregnant, putting a crimp in their teenage lives that probably wasn’t on their Bingo cards. Once they convinced Sophia’s mom to let them give the child up for adoption, their plans fell through when Johnny and a reluctant Chanel backed out of the deal. On top of that, Tate still has feelings for Holly. But that pesky Doug III seems to be getting between them. Leo Howard opened up recently about all of this and what Tate’s really thinking.

Doug Got Between Them

Holly (Ashley Puzemis) and Tate had a rocky start to their relationship when she accidentally overdosed on drugs and let him take the rap for it. Ultimately, they got together, but when Doug III (Peyton Meyer) entered the scene, Tate could see the newcomer had goo-goo eyes for his girl.

“Now with the Doug element as well…It’s just throwing a whole new wrench in the situation,” Howard told Soap Opera Digest. Tate and Holly were doing okay, relationship-wise, but when his jealousy over Doug got the better of him, Tate phoned Julie and told her Doug had stolen her valuable necklace. That caused a major rift between the young couple, and is what sent Tate right into Sophia’s waiting arms.

He’s Got To Figure Out His Priorities

Despite all that, Howard remarked, “Holly and Tate will always have a place etched in their hearts for each other no matter what.” He further noted that the divide between Tate and Holly is a realistic depiction of how difficult adulting is. The actor acknowledged that for Tate, “[Doug’s presence] feels really threatening.”

However, at the end of the day, Tate is optimistic that he and Holly were meant to be. He explained that Tate’s “also trying to fix things with Holly, and deep down, he really wants that to work.” Coupled with the death of Tate’s grandfather, John (Drake Hogestyn), Howard stated that his character has a full plate of worry and concern. But first and foremost, Tate must prioritize the care of Sophia and their baby and sort out what should be done next.
