Thankfully for the Jenny Han Hive, The Summer I Turned Pretty isn’t over just yet. Sure, we saw Bonrad seemingly have their endgame moment in the season 3 finale on September 17, but Jenny has more of Belly’s story to tell in the upcoming movie adaptation. A release date for The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie hasn’t been revealed just yet…and apparently, there’s a pretty good reason for that.
At The Wrap’s 2025 Power Women Summit on Tuesday, December 2, Jenny gave a much-needed update on the film’s production and revealed they’re still in the early stages.
“I just wrote it. We have not filmed anything yet,” she shared, adding that she had seen the internet’s wishes of a Christmas Day release after Belly and Conrad’s adorable holiday-themed photo shoot in Cousins during the season 3 finale.
“I know that everyone was hoping that it was coming out this Christmas, but unfortunately, not happening, not possible,” she continued.
While filming on TSITP wrapped in 2024, Jenny added that post-production for the third and final season took place until June 2025. Meaning: There wasn’t a lot of time to even consider working on the movie.
“The show came out in July,” Jenny, who’s also directing the movie, explained. “So it was really up to the last minute on the show, so that we wouldn’t have had time to film the whole movie.”
Of course, the bestselling author admitted that she’s “really excited to do the movie as well,” after directing several episodes in the last season because “it’s a privilege…to be the one to tell the story.”
And, take it from us: No one could do it better. We’ll be waiting with bated breath for more Bonrad in The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie.
