Jenny Han Shares Update on Release of ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Film

The film will follow “another big milestone left in Belly’s journey,” author and show creator Jenny Han has said.

Fans anxiously awaiting “The Summer I Turned Pretty” film just got an update on when they may get to return to Cousins Beach.

Jenny Han, author and creator of “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” gave an update on the franchise-wrapping movie during The Wrap’s 2025 Power Women Summit.

“I just wrote it,” Han said. “We have not filmed anything yet.”

Prime Video officially confirmed the film on Sept. 17, the same day the Season 3 finale dropped on the streaming platform. Han will direct the film, which was written by herself and Sarah Kucserka.

Han previously shared on TODAY Sep. 18 that she had finished a draft, squashing rampant fan theories that the movie might drop around Christmas, fueled by Season 3’s end credits featuring photos of leads Belly (Lola Tung) and Conrad (Christopher Briney) celebrating Christmas in Paris.

“I know that everyone was hoping that it was coming out this Christmas, but unfortunately, not happening, not possible,” Han said at the time.

When pressed for an estimated release date, Han added, “It’s still a little too soon to say,” and later confirmed it won’t come out in 2026.

The show ended with Belly and Conrad finally reconciling after three seasons of a will-they/won’t-they romance. The movie is expected to spotlight the next step of their love story. “We’ll Always Have Summer,” the third book in the series, concludes with an epilogue that sees Belly and Conrad get married at Cousins Beach.

Han kept gave TODAY a hint at what is up next in Belly’s storyline.

“I can say there’s another big milestone for Belly,” Han said. “So we’ll continue with that journey.”
